I believe that Eldene’s future is an uncertain one. With the council seemingly abandoning it to private ventures and haphazardly breaking promises, it’s no wonder people are concerned.

If the present shopping centre is demolished, which I oppose, with no money to clean and re-decorate the area, Eldene would be an undesirable place to live.

I fear it would become like the old Bulldog site on Queens Drive, unattractive and a possible health and safety hazard, a hazard that is multiplied many times over because of its location near Eldene’s public house and the community centre which is a venue for a children’s nursery.

In your article Councillor Dale Heenan made a party political and personal attack on Councillor Derique Montaut, Eldene’s local representative. I feel Councillor Heenan should pay more respect to the people of Eldene and our representatives; they deserve more than to be made a tool in a party political argument.

A few of my elderly friends who live in Eldene are also concerned about local amenities such as the post office. They are worried that if Morrisons doesn’t take it on they will have to go all the way to Liden on a daily basis.
