A WOMAN has been fined for failing to send her children to school.

Simone Stott, aged 34, of Marld Crescent, Johnson Fold, admitted failing to send one of her children, a nine-year-old boy, to school regularly between April 24 and July 16.

The child was said to have 21 unauthorised absences over the period and her other child had 32 unauthorised absences.

She appeared at Bolton Magistrates’ Court yesterday after failing to pay fixed penalty notices.

Addressing the magistrates, Stott said: “At the time I was going through a bad time. My mum was going through breast cancer and had chemotherapy. Being a single parent I was struggling on my own. They have been going to school since.”

She was ordered her to pay a £60 fine for each child, £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
