THERE are two sides to Dallas Green. As the front man of early 2000's hardcore scream emo act Alexisonfire, Green demonstrated an angry passion with heavy vocals and brutal music.

Tonight, under the alias of City And Colour, Boscombe is treated to something very different.

It is time for Green to demonstrate his singer songwriter capabilities.

New tracks from his latest album are lodged firmly into the start of the set. Backed by a band of four, The Lonely Life is Green's guitar and morbid lyrics.

Throughout, there is an occasional wall of sound from the band.

It punctures the atmosphere, elevates Green's lyrics and adds depth to the tunes. If ever a musician wanted to have his words heard, this is the way.

The band play progressive grooves that switch from calm to relentless. Much like the theme of his lyrics.

After five songs the band disappears leaving Green as a solitary figure hiding under a hat, behind a guitar and with a harmonica.

He charms the crowd with some interaction before launching into the beautifully haunting Body In A Box. His vocals swirl around the venue, his harmonica fills the room. It is a moment.

It is a highlight. Before the set becomes a solo project and too repetitive, the band return and restore the balance.

Tonight has demonstrated Green's talents but there is still a feeling of nostalgia and maybe some in the room wish they could just witness a blast of the Alexisonfire side of Green.
