MALTON police have thanked local people and the town’s primary schools for their support after vandals targeted play equipment.

Police are continuing to investigate the damage caused to items in two school playgrounds in the town.

Officers have identified two local boys aged 12 and 13 who have been spoken to about the incident and inquiries are continuing.

The offenders damaged the outdoor play area and storage sheds, which had been provided through fundraising by the school’s Parent Teachers’ Association. They also forced the locks off three sheds at St Mary’s School, which is next door to Malton Primary School, in Highfield Road.

PC Mark Rees said: “This incident has caused a lot of upset within the local community and we are determined to bring the case to a swift conclusion.

“The response from local people has been very supportive and I would like to thank everyone who has come forward with information.
