Businesses and homes were left without electricity following a power cut.

Properties in Wealdstone High Street and Masons Avenue suffered a power cut at about 6.30pm yesterday.

Harrow Borough Council cabinet member for business Cllr Kam Chana wrote to UK Power Networks last week raising concerns over many power cuts in Stanmore in December last year and January.

He said: “I think this shows the poor level of service businesses are getting from the power network.

“Businesses across Harrow need support as it is and for a lot of them power supply is vital to their work.

“Whenever the power goes they are being left in the dark about when the lights will go back on. There needs to be better communication between UK Power Networks and business.

“These things happen from time to time and that is understandable but it is not fair for people not to be kept informed.”

A spokeswoman for UK Power Networks said: “Engineers worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to 52 customers in the High Street area of Wealdstone who experienced an interruption to their electricity supplies following a suspected underground cable fault.

“They lost power at 6.35pm yesterday. Supplies were restored briefly at about 11pm but went off again. All customers had supplies back by 9.52am today.

“We appreciate how difficult it can be without power and apologise for the inconvenience caused.”

In regards to issues in Stanmore she said: “Our engineers are working to resolve a problem that has caused several power interruptions to customers in the Stanmore area.

“On each occasion the power was restored within four hours. The interruptions are thought to have been caused by a cable fault and these can sometimes be difficult to locate.

She added: “We would like to apologise to the customers affected for the inconvenience and reassure them we are working to resolve the issue.”
