Devizes reasserted their Davis Wood League Central One title credentials as they bounced back from the previous week’s defeat with a 4-2 success at home to Mid-Somerset.

Trailing twice to Mid-Somerset goals, Dan Smith and Roger Edwards levelled each time and, in the second half Devizes were much sharper.

Another Edwards corner and a composed finish from Ollie Smith secured the victory, as nearest rivals Yeovil & Sherborne lost.

Chippenham came out on the wrong side of a 10-goal contest with fellow strugglers Team Bath Buccs C, losing 6-4 despite goals from Mark Knight, Selwyn Widger twice and Chris Instone.

Marlborough claimed their first Championship point of 2014 as they held Firebrands A 1-1 in Bristol.

After a rousing team talk from captain Rich Holman, Marlborough started brilliantly and their reward came shortly before the end of the first half as Anil Sud struck.

Firebrands changes saw them increase the pressure in the second period and a controversial umpiring decision allowed them an equaliser. Wootton Bassett maintained their 100 per cent record in East Central One as they defeated Wootton-Under-Edge A 4-0.

Jack Twine, captain Kristian Mansfield and Kyle Barnes, twice, scored.

A brace of goals from Jack Wiltshire, and strikes from Nick Thomson and Neil Saunders gave Wootton Bassett B a 4-0 win over West Wilts E.

Alex treble lifts ladies

Marlborough took a giant step towards the West Clubs League North Division title as their 3-1 victory at second-placed Jaspers gave them a commanding seven-point lead.

It took Marlborough until the 30th minute to score their first goal, with dynamic play from Helen Durrans in defence to high forward Alex Crosby-Jones resulting in a deftly-timed goal.

After half time, Crosby-Jones, on the top of the D, slipped the ball home.

Jaspers scored from a well-worked short corner, but the visitors rounded it off as Crosby-Jones completed her hat-trick.

Chippenham registered their first Premier Division 2A win since before Christmas as Rhiannon Roberts scored twice in their 2-1 win over Hereford.

Wootton Bassett Ladies A beat Melksham A 6-0 to retain their top spot in Wessex Division Two.

There were a brace of goals for Abi Iles and Kelly Lusted, plus strikes for Sue Lee and Rhiannon Turner.

Chippenham 3 thrashed City of Bath 3 10-1, as Mary Derrick scored five times.

Sunniva Petersen netted twice, Caitlin Simon, Helen Franklin and Kate Potter also on target.
