Saints striker Sam Gallagher will miss Saturday's match against Stoke, following the death of his dad.
The 18-year-old's father passed away last weekend, and Gallagher has been released by the club in order to be with his family.
A statement from Saints said: "Southampton Football Club would like to send its heartfelt condolences to forward Sam Gallagher following the sad death of his father, Richard, at the weekend.
"Richard passed away last Saturday following a short illness. As a result, Sam has been excused from training this week and will not be available for this weekend’s game against Stoke City.
"We are sure that all of our supporters will join us in extending our condolences to Sam, his mother, Sally, and the rest of the Gallagher family at this sad and difficult time."
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino added: "It’s a very tough moment for him of course.
"I want to take this time to send my heartfelt condolences to him and his family from the Southampton family and the staff.
"It’s a very tough moment indeed and we will give him our full support in this tough moment.
Sam is going to be with his family until Monday and they need him to be present, to be untied to be together.
"He will come back on Monday but this is a time he needs to be with his family."
The other injury news for Saints ahead of the Stoke game is that Calum Chambers has been suffering with a dead leg and Victor Wanyama with a knock, both picked up against Fulham.
However, the pair are back in training and Saints are hopeful they will be available for the weekend.
