All to play for in Trophy semi
10:34am Tuesday 18th February 2014 in Sport
THE all-Hampshire FA Trophy semi-final between Havant & Waterlooville and Gosport Borough remains wide open following last night’s 1-1 draw at Westleigh Park.
After a largely uneventful first half, Gosport broke the deadlock on 47 minutes with a clinical finish by Tim Sills.
Havant levelled 12 minutes later following a short corner on the right. Nic Ciardini found space to cut inside and drill the equalis er into the bottom corner.
Gosport sprang a surprise with the inclusion of former AFC Totton midfielder Ryan Scott – his first Borough appearance since the Southern Premier play-off final last season.
He played his part in a solid performance by the visitors which, coupled with the heavy surface, largely killed the tie as a spectacle. But Gosport boss Alex Pike was unapologetic, saying: “If people thought it was boring – tough.
“We had a game plan to make sure we were still in it after the first leg and if we don’t get a 3,000-plus crowd at Privett Park on Saturday, we never will.
"There’s got to be an outcome and one of us is going to Wembley.”
