I JUST want to comment on the recent property article by Charlotte Neal. I found her report on the state of the housing market quite surprising.

We are currently on the market and here, in the Basingstoke and Deane catchment area, there are very few properties coming on to the market.

We are having problems with the stamp duty; some prospective buyers are refusing to pay it!

Our agent, to quote him, said if only they would do something to the stamp duty, all the estate agents in the area would be very pleased, as it will bring more properties to the market.

We are having a job finding any property in the area – we wish to be on the east of Basingstoke but there are not any homes on the market.

Our agent was quite impressed when I told him I had written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer to do something about the stamp duty.

He said: “Good, it will get the housing market going!”
