I HAVE recently started working in York city centre and frequently on my way home I pass a young homeless guy with his dog.

He sits at the end of Coney Street most nights, even in the cold and wet, and he never asks for money like some do.

I used to ignore such people and keep walking, but recently I have given him the odd bit of change or some food and some chews for his dog.

I just wanted to say how much better I felt afterwards. He was so grateful. I am sure some of the homeless end up on the streets through their own fault, but am also sure that some of them end up there through no fault of their own.

I will continue to give this lad the odd bit of change or food when I can and I hope others will do the same.

They do deserve a helping hand and it’s down to people like you and me to provide it because I don’t think they get much help from the Government. So please spare a thought for the homeless.

That odd bit of change or some food is probably more appreciated than you think.
