Enfield boxers Andreas and Chris Evangelou return to the ring on Saturday but the two brothers will have very different targets at York Hall.

Light heavyweight Andreas faces Sam Couzens and is hoping to extend his unbeaten record to ten fights. But for light welterweight Chris, his bout against Dan Carr is an opportunity to get back on track after three successive defeats.

Chris believes the fight will be the perfect chance to kick-start his title hopes and is confident of victory.

“In any sport you have to have a short memory and you are only as good as your last fight,” 28-year-old Chris explained.

“You want to bounce back from a defeat as quickly as possible but in boxing that isn’t easy because you have to wait three months for another fight.

“But it is not about what has happened before. It is about walking into the ring and showing what I have done in training and show that I can fight.

“By the end of this year I would like to have won a title. I don’t know at this stage what title that might be but I am sure I am at the top level and I will prove that.”

Chris understandably feels confident of victory against an opponent who has just three victories from his 58 fights.

However, he believes he will have to dictate the fight, which is a style he believes may surprise some of his supporters.

“I have seen clips of Dan and he is an excitable character in the ring. It will be up to me to control the fight instead of looking to counter.

“A lot of people will see a bit of a change in style from me and that may be a little different to what people are used to.” Brother Andreas, on the other hand, believes he is up against his toughest opponent yet. The 30-year-old admits he has had to “work harder than ever” in preparation for Saturday’s fight but says a victory will put him in line for a title.

He said: “I know a win will put me in contention for a title but if I don’t win then I am stuck in the same position. I want to get the victory and hopefully that will help me progress.

“I want to get a title as soon as possible; that’s my target for this year. I’d like to go for the Southern Area title or possibly a WBO European title.

“I was actually offered the chance to fight for the Southern Area title after my sixth fight but that was too soon for me.

“But I am feeling ready now so if I get the win at the weekend I can hopefully get a title fight.”
