A BROADWAY musical will be brought to life in Hartford in April.
The Mid Cheshire Musical Theatre Company will present Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the Grange Theatre, in Bradburns Lane, between April 3 and 5.
Shows will start at 7.30pm.
A lesser-known Broadway musical it encompasses a wide variety of styles, including ballad, vaudeville, blues and jazz.Follies is a complex show with a large cast and a unique range of narrative songs, including ‘Loveland’, ‘Too Many Mornings’, ‘I’m Still Here’, ‘Broadway Baby’ and ‘Losing my Mind’.
The show is set in the semi-derelict Weisman theatre in NYC, which is about to be demolished for a parking lot.
Owner Dimitri Weisman has invited the surviving members of the showgirls who starred in his ‘Follies’ extravaganzas almost 40 years earlier to a final reunion party and the opportunity for the ‘Beautiful Girls’ to descend the famous staircase and maybe to sing the songs that once made them famous for one last time.
The story centres around former showgirls Sally and Phyllis and their respective partners Buddy and Ben who are all forced to confront some uncomfortable truths about their pasts and unfulfilled hopes and dreams.
