England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted he would like to see Luke Shaw in action against Denmark tomorrow – but has stopped short of guaranteeing him a first senior cap.
The Saints left-back has been called-up by Hodgson for the first time, and could receive his debut in the friendly match at Wembley.
Hodgson said: "It would be nice to get Luke Shaw on the pitch, but I don’t want to make any promises just yet."
If Shaw impresses Hodgson this week, he could yet force his way into the squad for this summer's World Cup.
Tomorrow's fixture is the last game before the England boss names his 23-man party for this summer's tournament - a list he is due to publish on May 13.
Left-back is an intriguing area, with Everton's Leighton Baines and Chelsea's Ashley Cole also competing for a place in Brazil.
Cole is the most vulnerable to Shaw's presence, having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge.
However, the 33-year-old will be hoping the experience he has gathered in his 106 caps will help ward off the threat of the teenage Saints star.
