9:59pm

More praise for Lallana ...

Lee Dixon on ITV: Lallana can change a game ... he's got everything. If he's not on the plane to Brazil I will be gobsmacked.

9:58pm

Adrian Chiles on ITV: Lallana was the most exciting player in the second half.

Glenn Hoddle on ITV: Lallana has gone a long way to putting himself on the plane to Brazil.

Ian Wright on ITV: We haven't got anyone else like Lallana in the England squad.

9:53pm

Daily Echo:

Adam Lallana, right of picture, watches Daniel Sturridge head home his superb cross for the only goal of tonight's friendly.

9:51pm

It's a win for England in the final match before Roy Hodgson names his World Cup squad. Adam Lallana further enhanced his hopes of winning a ticket to Brazil with an excellent display when he came on. Luke Shaw also looked impressive in his 45 minutes at left-back, although so did his rival, Ashley Cole, in the first half. Neither Jay Rodriguez or Rickie Lambert made it onto the pitch tonight.

9:50pm

ENGLAND 1 DENMARK 0

9:46pm

Approaching half-time in the Spain v Italy contest, where it is 0-0. On-loan Saints striker Dani Osvaldo has started for Italy.

9:45pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Daniel Sturridge off, James Milner on (88 mins).

9:43pm

Daily Echo:

Adam Lallana, the man who set up Daniel Sturridge's header that gave England the lead at Wembley tonight.

9:43pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Raheem Sterling off, Andros Townsend on (86 mins).

9:40pm

ENGLAND 1 DENMARK 0 (Daniel Sturridge 82)

Sturridge with the goal and Adam Lallana with the assist. A great bit of skill from the Saints midfielder opens up space in the area, he lofts in a cross and Ssturridge duly nods home. (82 mins) 1-0.

9:36pm

RESULT: Poland 0 Scotland 1 - Artur Boruc is an unused substitute for the hosts, as former Saints boss Gordon Strachan's men triumph in Warsaw.

9:34pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Former Saints winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes on for Jordan Henderson (77 mins)

9:33pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Adam Lallana is set free down the inside-left channel, delivering a dangerous cross that Jesper Juelsgard manages to turn behind. (75 mins) 0-0.

9:30pm

RESULT: Switzerland 2 Croatia 2 - Dejan Lovren plays the first 57 minutes before being substituted in Croatia's draw in St Gallen.

9:29pm

RESULT: Austria 1 Uruguay 1 - Gaston Ramirez plays the second half, as Uruguay come from a goal down to earn a draw in Klagenfurt.

9:26pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Adam Lallana nearly got himself an assist. A clever pass into the path of Danny Welbeck helps set the Manchester United man powering towards the area. He holds off a defender and fires in a low shot that Kasper Schmeichel does well to save. (69 mins) 0-0.

9:25pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Nearly a goal for Denmark, as Morten Rasmussen breaks in behind the defence, but Joe Hart produces a fine save to keep him out. (65 mins) 0-0.

9:23pm

Luke Shaw in action on his England debut.

Daily Echo:

9:23pm

Former Saints star Gareth Bale scores for Wales to put them 3-1 up at home to Iceland.

Burnley's Sam Vokes, born in Lymington and raised as a Saints fan, had earlier scored Wales' second goal.

9:20pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Lallana is straight into the thick of the action, linking up with Shaw before producing a mesmerising piece of skill in the area and sending a ball across the face of goal. Earlier, Shaw had rampaged down the left and sent in a dangerous low cross that Denmark did well to clear. That was one of a number of impressive bursts forward from the 18-year-old, who has settled in extremely well. (62 mins) 0-0.

9:19pm

Former Saints midfielder, Andy Townsend, commentating on ITV, says Adam Lallana is a "certainty" to go to Brazil for the World Cup finals in his opinion.

9:16pm

ADAM LALLANA IS ON.

The Saints midfielder is introduced for Jack Wilshere (59 mins).

England have also sent Danny Welbeck on, in place of Wayne Rooney.

9:09pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Luke Shaw earns a round of applause from the crowd after dispossessing Peter Ankersen, who was threatening down the right-hand side. It has been an accomplished start from Shaw. 51 mins gone. 0-0.

9:07pm

Saints midfielder Victor Wanyama will not be in action tonight. Kenya's scheduled friendly in Sudan was called off earlier today as the visitors refused to play in Darfur. The Kenyan FA said they had received an invitation to play in Khartoum, and would only play the game in that city.

9:03pm

Luke Shaw about to come on for his debut. Adrian Chiles says on ITV: 'I don't know what they feed them down in Southampton, but it seems to work.'

Shaw was five years old when Ashley Cole made his England debut, now he replaces him in the national team.

9:03pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: The second half is underway at Wembley.

9:02pm

LUKE SHAW IS ON FOR ENGLAND

The Saints full-back replaces Ashley Cole and is making his debut for the senior national team.

8:55pm

RESULT: Full time at Chester: England under-19s 3 Turkey 0. No goals for any of the four Saints, but all four of them got some good game time under their belts.

8:47pm

ENGLAND 0 DENMARK 0

8:47pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Kasper Schmeichel denies Daniel Sturridge with a superb close range save just before half-time, after the ball bounced into the path of the Liverpool striker inside the six-yard box following a Gary Cahill header.

8:47pm

Saints midfielder Steven Davis played the whole 90 minutes as Northern Ireland drew 0-0 in Cyprus.

Ex-Saints academy midfielder Ben Reeves was an unused sub, so is still waiting to make his senior international debut.

8:45pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Finally, a chance of real note at Wembley. It's been a pretty dismal first half in terms of entertainment, but England go close to giving the crowd something to cheer about. It's a lovely move involving Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney, with the latter feeding Ashley Cole on the overlap. His low ball across the face of goal picks out Raheem Sterling, who somehow manages to divert the ball against the post, rather than finding the back of the net. 43 minutes gone. 0-0.

8:44pm

Ivica Olic has equalised for Dejan Lovren's Croatia with his second goal of the game in Switzerland - it's now 2-2.

8:43pm

8:32pm

Saints striker Sam Gallagher in action on his England under-19 debut against Turkey tonight.

England have just taken a 3-0 lead at Chester with a goal from Callum Robinson.

8:31pm

England's Wayne Rooney controls the ball away from Denmark's Simon Kjaer (left).

Daily Echo:

8:28pm

All four of Saints' senior England internationals are starting tonight's game on the bench. Here are three of them - Rickie Lambert, Jay Rodriguez and Luke Shaw - during the pre-match warm-ups.

Daily Echo: England bench v Denmark

The four Saints players - Luke Shaw, Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert - on the England bench tonight.

8:24pm

Jack Wilshere and Emil Larsen battle for the ball at Wembley.

Daily Echo:

8:22pm

Sam Gallagher wins the penalty which Lewis Baker converts to put England under-19s 2-0 up against Turkey at Chester.

Saints colleague Harrison Reed was introduced as a half-time sub for clubmate Calum Chambers, who had been operating at centre back.

Reed is playing in his normal midfield role.

8:21pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: The first 20 minutes are up at Wembley, where it remains 0-0. England starting to apply a little pressure now, though. First, Wayne Rooney fires a free-kick over from just outside the area, before the striker latches onto a through ball and rounds Kasper Schmeichel on the corner of the box, only to skew his left-foot shot well wide from a difficult angle.

8:15pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Wilshere is able to continue, so Lallana will have to wait a little longer

8:13pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: Adam Lallana looks set to come on very early with Jack Wilshere having got injured.

Daily Echo:

8:12pm

ENGLAND v DENMARK: It's early days here at Wembley. The game is goalless and we are hoping to see a Saints player on the pitch as soon as possible.

in the meantime we are keeping an eye on Luke Shaw's England rival Ashley Cole. Other than one minor error he looks decent enough given his lack of games.

Saints keeper Artur Boruc starts on the bench for Poland in Scotland tonight.

7:39pm

England's Nathanial Chalobah and Nathan Redmond celebrate England's opening goal during the 2015 UEFA European U21 Championship Qualifying. Redmond's 56th minute strike was enough to hand England a 1-0 win. James Ward-Prowse played the full match for the hosts, while Lloyd Isgrove played 90 minutes for Wales.

Daily Echo:

7:32pm

7:28pm

First blood to James Ward Prowse against Lloyd Isgrove - Nathan Redmond's goal putting England under-21s ahead against Wales in Derby on 56 minutes.

7:27pm

22: GOAL ENGLAND under-19s - 1-0… John Swift knocks in Levante Cole.. a cheeky through ball found the Manchester City man, it looked for a moment as if he’d play in Gallagher but he struck the ball with vigour into the back of the net from the edge of the six yard box.

7:26pm

Young Saints keeper Cody Cropper won't be seeing any international action tonight.

He is in the USA squad for their friendly with Ukraine in Malta, but has not even won a place on the bench.

Everton's Tim Howard has started in goal, and Ukraine are leading after 17 minutes through Andri Yarmolenko.

7:23pm

7:20pm

It's ten minutes until kick off in St Gallen where Dejan Lovren is starting for Croatia against Switzerland

7:20pm

7:01pm

James Ward-Prowse in action for the England under-21s against Wales...

Le Tissier was 25 when he came on as a second half sub for Paul Gascoigne on March 9, 1994.

England won the game 1-0 and there were also debuts that night for Graeme Le Saux, who later went on to play for Saints, and Southampton born and raised Darren Anderton.

Saints youth goalkeeper Chris Johns was a spectator when Northern Ireland under-19s lost their European Championship qualifier 2-0 at home to Italy this evening.

Johns was one of his country's unused subs in a game where Brentford striker Marcello Trotta scored Italy's second goal in the 89th minute after coming on as a sub.

I got some thumbs down for saying we could keep luke and pay him £70k a week, do people not want him to stay?

anyway I don't care about the starting 11, as those that roy wants to look at will get some game time. I don't think lalla will get any time as he is sure of a place on the plane. will be interesting to see if SRL gets on. does roy think he has a place on the plane instead of donkey? i am getting excited about an England game again! sorry saints game ;0)

I think Woy has picked the same usual dross for the first half and he's leaving all the real quality till the second half. Good thinking Woy. Tactical genius. I'm watching the cricket till some quality is brought on.

Well, looks like we could have four Saints players in the same England side later tonight - looking forward to the second half.

Not sure what Roy hopes to learn with Cole - I don't think 45 minutes in what is a meaningless friendly for Denmark will show his true rustiness and age, in fact, if you wanted a fixture that will make him look misleadingly solid, this is it.

Will be interesting to see if Rickie and J-Rod get a game and, if so, for how long. I expect Rickie to get a decent amount of time, because clearly he's not picking him for the future. J-Rod may not get much of a run out - I think Roy wants to keep him in and around the squad ahead of involvement in the Euros.

So none of our "England" players are actually playing, just on the bench along with a dozen others for a token 2nd half appearance. Sounds like Yoshida played well for Japan, but he will be jet lagged when he gets back. As for Victor Wanyama, lord knows what condition he'll be in when he gets back from Kenya's game in Sudan. That's enough for me, I'm off to login to TF1 to watch France-Holland.

By the way, I hope Roy has noticed Ashley Cole has relied on cover from both Sturridge and Sterling to get him out of jail this half (and some poor Danish play). I think the door is ajar for Luke...

And as for our creativity and front play - has there been a shot on target? Anything we have created has been from non-imaginative dead balls (thrown in the box or wild shot from Rooney) and energy - no skill whatsoever. Sturridge plays with no conviction or confidence for England (thus far anyway, cue a goal no doubt).

And Luke picks up the ball deep in his own half and goes on a surging run. He plays a quick one two with Adam and makes it to the by line. A great cross to the far post where Ricky comfortably wins it in the air and knocks it back to JRod who slots it wide of their keeper. Roy gets on the phone and asks how the u21 and U19s played and pencils in another 3 Saints players for Brazil. Then I woke up to find that the dopey t--t has only brought on Luke.

But why are the likes of Rooney and Gerrard still on the pitch. Everybody knows that they are definitely on the plane for Brazil. So why not give a full 45 minutes to players that are not a cert for the world cup.

This is only a friendly so the result doesn't matter. But it's the last friendly before Hodgson has to name his squad. So get a good look at the remaining contenders for a WC place, including our remaining three players.

I should add that I would still be making this comment even if we had no Saints players in this particular squad. My Saints bias is not influencing my comment. I just can't see the point in playing "safely safely" in your last friendly before naming the final squad for Brazil.

Well that's the Luke Shaw vs Ashley Cole argument sorted out then and as for Adam - anyone who can do a Cruyff turn in this squad has to be a certainty.

Sure it isn't my obvious bias, but I think our lads are actually giving the others confidence to express themselves.

For me the difference between the hype of Jack Wilshere and the reality of Adam Lallana has just been confirmed. The guy has been practically swaggering about the pitch. Awesome.

Sadly looks like that's that for Rickie but I don't think Carroll will be going either. Clearly Roy has decided he'll have one central striker and lots of quick wide forwards who can play centrally if needed. So it's Roo, plus the wide guys: Sturridge, Wellbeck (both who could go central if needed), Sterling, Ox, Townsend etc etc. I doubt he'll take another 'big' striker.

I'd be starting with Adam over Wilshere, but think Roy will prefer to go conservative on that one.

I think Roy will risk Luke now because I think he showed a total lack of fear so, I don't think it's a risk. He will also be helped by the fact that Rickie and Adam have already shown that the Saints players are up to it. Cole looked rusty and lacked the puff to get back - you can no longer have that in a full back. No match fitness equals no place in what could be a three match tournament - why bother taking Cole if it's highly unlikely he'll play anyway?

And, yeah, when you think of Rickie's goal vs Scotland and particularly the game when he set up two for Wellbeck, I think he's maybe worth a punt, but then why wouldn't he give him any game time? I can't believe he feels he's seen enough of him to give him a place on the plane.

Roy is fairly consistent though - he tends to dump out the older players when he can (Ferdinand, Terry, Lampard I expect, Cole I expect), which bodes well for Luke, not so for Rickie.

Agree he's been poor, but you can't leave the guy out of the squad and for the first time going into a major tournament he should be fairly fresh as he's going to have far less to think about club wise this season. He's been poor, but you don't totally discard a potential match winner (unless you manage or captain the England cricket team).

Harsh critic says...

"Looking at performances, you would have to be a harsh critic to say anybody played poorly tonight. I've been very happy with the attitude and the desire to get on that plane and grab a shirt" - Roy Hodgson

Got to love the guy though, like any tactless old man he tries to be nice but actually gives away what he's really thinking:

"Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, even Jack Wilshere, all of those came out of the game with credit."

Even Jack Wilshere? Why, was he crap Roy?

He tried to stand up for Cleverley in the week and ended up suggesting people were blaming him totally for Man Utd's bad season.

Not sure his critics quite went that far Roy, but now you come to mention it... although Smalling is quite bad too.
