Mauricio Pochettino believes Luke Shaw has shown Roy Hodgson that he has the quality to deliver in international football.

The Saints boss was delighted with the showing of his teenage left back as Shaw made his England debut in the midweek friendly over Denmark.

Though Pochettino was offering no advice for Hodgson on whether to pick Ashley Cole or Shaw, he did say any questions over how the youngster would handle the step up have now been answered.

He said: “I think Roy Hodgson has a very big problem on his hands.

“I don’t know what is going through Roy’s mind at the moment regarding Luke Shaw but in light of the 45 minutes he played he showed he deserves to be in the team and has the quality to be in the team.”

Pochettino felt that Shaw’s performance was a great moment for the club, as well as the player and his family.

“I thought it was an amazing moment for him, for Southampton Football Club in general and especially all the managers and directors he’s had in the academy,” he said.

“To see a child from ten-years-old to making his international debut has to be a moment of great satisfaction and of great pride.”

Pochettino did though warn of the dangers that can affect club sides after an international break.

“It’s a very important moment for them and for us that they are playing in the English national side but it can have a positive and a negative influence so we need to balance the two of them,” he explained.

“It’s a new experience for them to be getting called up to the English national side and it’s a really good moment for them “We need to keep our feet on the ground and stay balanced in light of their recent call-ups.”

I don't think Poch did say "Shaw has England quality" - why would he when we all know Shaw is MUCH better than that. COYR!

I LIKE LUKE SHAW - his game and decision making is continuing to develop. His career will continue to improve STAYING WITH. THE MIGHTY SOUTHAMPTON.

As already posted I believe FAN POWER has a bit part to play tomorrow. Delhurst Park should be good for a result tomorrow. Palace Fans will feel the same so even if we go a goal down it is important to KEEP THE SUPPORT TO THE TEAM TO GET A RESULT. Tony pulls does not lose many so we will have to be at our FIGHTING BEST to counter the palace aggression.

WHEN WE TOOK 20,000 AND AGAIN THE 6000 - they were exceptional days - but goes to show what a difference the fan base can make. Also went to a miserable Cup game in that same season and with fringe players being put out to play - it ended with the inevitable result. Promised I would not support the Cup Runs again and look at me this Season.

PUT OUT THE STRONGEST TEAM - COUNTER THE PALACE AGRESSION - AND REALLY GET BEHIND THE TEAM.

The Flora Sandes would be a good Pub for the Red and White Army - although last time I was at the game - it had a bouncer on the doors and not too welcoming.

SAINTS FANS will gravitate to wherever they sell beer - We only have about 2500 fans this time -SO IT IS UP TO US TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON - WE'RE OFF TO BRAZIL.

RED ARMY. NUMBER ONE IN THE SOUTH.
WE RULE THE SOUTH. COYR

I see Cole is out injured again which seems to support the rumour that he is unable to play 2 games in a short period of time these days..
Imo that should be one of the main reasons that Luke should go to the world cup ahead of the oap, but of course certain London media fail to notice that and that world cup games come approx every 5 days.

TRAFFIC is a big factor with getting to the Palace Game.- you think you are almost at the ground and then an hour of gridlock.

START OUT EARLY - IF GOING BY CAR / COACH with no stops on the way up.
