Redevelopment of Staplewood training ground a top priority for Southampton FC's Ralph Krueger

Ralph Krueger has revealed that the completion of Saints’ training ground redevelopment is a top priority for the club’s new board.

Work is continuing on the reported £30m revamp of Staplewood, with Krueger paying particular attention to the project.

The new chairman said the board would also consider possible options for developing and improving St Mary’s.

“Right now, the training ground is priority one and looking at the options within St Mary's is definitely number two,” he said.

“It is very serious for us. We are aware only of the basics challenges that we have. The options available here and the academy.

“I have to tell you we are doing a complete and total reassessment of the situation but it is moving forward.

“We will be very transparent again on that to, it is not ready to go public yet but that is an absolute priority right now of the board and getting that done."

Great to hear that the new Board is considering spending some money on St Mary's and making it into more of the top sporting venue that the club deserves.
Having visited the new Wembley on last week, Ralph will have seen what a proper venue looks like. Please also visit Arsenal, which is one of the top stadiums in the country.
St Mary's was a good stadium when it was opened in 2001, but fans would like to be able to enjoy a drink somewhere that isn't freezing cold, before the game and some better catering options than 'pie and a pint'!
Its a huge captive audience, but there is nowhere for the ordinary fan who isn't a member of the 'Dell Club', or in corporate hospitality to enjoy a drink and a meal before the game - on-site - since the concourse doesn't even open until an hour or so before the game.

Whilst I have no objection to extending the stadium, lets remember that we rarely fill it (albeit we are close).
A stadium that has lots of empty seats looks bad and also reduces the atmosphere. We really need to consolidate and prove that we can fill St Mary's on a regular basis before any thoughts can be considered.

If the club is able to continue to grow, demand will continue to increase. As you say, we're near capacity every game for average prem opposition and it's nigh on impossible for the casual punter to go to the big games. We have a great catchment area here and if Saints can further establish themselves as a successful premiership outfit then new markets will open up all over the south. Possible exception of Portsmouth of course but we don't want them coming anyway.

They should make the hospitality options more affordable. Lots of us go to Oxford Street for a meal , drinks prior to the game cos it's less expensive than the offering from the club. They are losing out big time.

You heard wrong. Planning applications are public records and are widely consulted on before being approved

If they are to redevelop the stadium I expect them to wait and see if safe standing becomes an option. All good sounds coming from the top brass tho, seems to be very positive.

The training ground should be finished and set up in time for pre-season training making Saints the envy of most other clubs and will encourage players to stay and others to come.
The next stage is to improve the team and push on for honors and European football. Along with this is the need to expand and improve the stadium.
Another 12k would be enough taking it to about 45k capacity but we will need to fill it. Therefore cheaper ticket prices are a requirement plus some free entry for a rotation of school children and deserving sections of the community would help to increase the future fan base.
Can we also please make the seats behind the goal be always for Saints Fans not away or certainly not covered empty seats.

Regarding tickets and prices I believe some recognition should be given to fans who have supported through thick and thin. There will be a computerised record of tickets bought and by whom; the club should be able to vary ticket prices according to one's buying history over, say, the last 5 seasons.

Proper fans would then be rewarded appropriately.
