JUSTIN Bennett brought AFC Totton’s three-match winning streak to a halt at Poole Town last night.

The on-loan Gosport Borough striker hit both goals as the Dolphins got their Southern Premier play-off push back on track with a 2-0 victory at Tatnam.

Bennett struck first on four minutes after charging down a clearance by Stags keeper Steve Mowthorpe. He made the game safe just after the hour with a tidy finish from Carl Preston’s cut-back.

Ex-Stag Michael Charles also clipped the post for Poole, but the result was rough justice on a rapidly improving, young Totton side for whom Luke Roberts, Taylor Edwards, Alex Moth, James Jennings, Zac Mouland and Nathan Hurst all went close.

“I’ve never known a game where we’ve created so many chances and haven’t put the ball in the net,” said manager Steve Riley. “We controlled the match and even Tom (Poole boss, Killick) said we were the better team.

“Dan Thomas was outstanding in goal for them, we’ve had one cleared off the line and three or four times we’ve hit our own man.

“We’ve got a lot of frustrated players because we didn’t get what we deserved.”

Never mind frustration, Totton were angry that a foul was not awarded in the build-up to Poole’s decisive second goal.

“Their lad’s gone down Liam Gilbert’s Achilles and the ref’s played on as if they just clipped legs. No one could believe it. Liam’s sock broke and he had blood on his Achilles.” said Riley. “It’s left a sour taste.”

Totton remain third to bottom, seven points clear of Bashley who lost 2-0 at home to Hitchin.
