JAMES Vince led from the front but could not stop Hampshire from losing their only game of the T20 Barbados Cup.
The stand-in captain hit a 28-ball 46 but Hampshire could only manage 124 and lost by 14 runs against Barbados.
Matt Coles (3-23), Sean Ervine (2-25), Liam Dawson (1-19) and David Balcombe (1-29) took the wickets as the home side were restricted to 138-7.
Vince and new signing Joe Gatting (15) put on 58 for the first wicket. But Ervine (21) and Sean Terry (10) did not capitalise on starts Hampshire were due to face Northamptonshire in Sunday’s semi-final.
But it was rained off, with Nottinghamshire winning the final by ten runs following a Duckworth-Lewis calculation.
Hampshire begin a two-day friendly against Warwickshire at Windward CC tomorrow.
