SHOLING boss Dave Diaper has put the club’s potential Wembley winnings jackpot into sharp perspective.

The Boatmen have already banked about £12,000 from winning through six rounds to the FA Vase semi finals.

They would collect a further £6,000 if they beat Eastbourne United in the forthcoming semi-final, and a cool £25,000 if they went on to win the final at the national stadium.

Diaper insists that windfall would easily be swallowed up if Sholing go on to win promotion back to the Southern League at the end of this season.

The club withdrew from the Southern League last year due to financial reasons, but have applied to go back up.

“The Vase final is worth £25,000, it would basically pay for travel for the season in the Southern League South and West,” Diaper explained.

“It goes without saying there would be quite a substantial shortfall.

“The whole season would probably be in the region of £60,000 [in the South and West].

“What the Vase does for us is put us into the limelight for potential investors.

“A cash injection would allow us to build the facilities that we’ve been planning for a long time now.

“At the moment, we will yoyo up and down from the Southern Premier Leagues to the Wessex because we have to balance our finances and go again.

“It would unviable for us to remain in the South and West without facing financial problems.

“It wouldn’t make sense to put us in such danger.

“You look at the situation Bashley and AFC Totton are in at the moment.

“We don’t want to be in that position, so we have to be patient and bide our time.”
