Sholing manager Dave Diaper may put a planned spying mission on FA Vase semi-final opponents Eastbourne United on hold this evening.
He had intended to watch the Sussex County League Division 2 leaders against Steyning Town at United’s Oval ground.
Eastbourne come to the Silverlake Arena for the first leg of the Vase semi-final on Saturday, with the East Sussex return on April 5.
But, after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Fawley which left Sholing three points adrift of Alresford Town at the top of the Sydenhams Wessex League, he’s having second thoughts and may take charge of the Boatmen at Bournemouth Poppies instead.
“It’s probably more important I put our own house in order as opposed to going down to Eastbourne, but I’ve not made up my mind yet,” Diaper said.
“I was disappointed with the way we started at Fawley. Going two down was poor.
“But we did turn things around in the second half and with a bit of luck and better finishing we could have scored a few goals and won the game.”
As it was, Sholing needed goals from substitute Barry Mason and Marvin McLean to salvage a 2-2 draw – an outcome which left Alresford still in pole position.
Alresford, who have played five games more, host Fawley – chasing a 13th successive SWL win.
