Society asked Rhona Gillmore how to make sure you look your best for your wedding

Wedding preparations are a first for every new bride. As a therapist who has talked many brides through to their special day, I can give some important but simple steps to ensure you look your best!

Choosing your colour scheme first is very important. Check out your skin tone: your natural tones are either warm and peachy or cool and pink.

Once you know the complementary palette by having a colour analysis, the whole wedding theme will be easier to develop – flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses, etc..

Skin preparation should start at least three months before the big day, because stress can cause upsets. Then the week of the wedding should see eyebrows tidied, waxing, and a good self-tan to give a glow without looking orange! Gel nails for hands and feet will definitively ensure no smudging.

Lastly, a make-up lesson is a great idea if you can’t have a professional make-up on the day.

Make-up is all about a natural, formal look to match the occasion. There are professional ways to ensure it lasts through the whole day and all the photographs – which will be your memories for ever. Bearing this in mind, the cost of this service is a small expense in the grand scheme of things.

In all the weddings that I have attended professionally, giving preparation advice to avoid a panic at the end seems, above all, to convey calmness to the bride. Which leaves you free to do the most important thing: enjoy your day!
