YOU are all invited on the voyage of a lifetime with 50 Students of the Northavon School of Drama, performing as the Northavon Youth Theatre Company, on the S S American, sailing from New York to London, in Cole Porter’s musical extravaganza Anything Goes!

The liner leaves the stage of Thornbury’s Armstrong Hall, from 16 to 19 April at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings, with a 3 pm sailing on Good Friday, plus anchors aweigh at 2.30 pm on Saturday.

The Captain and his crew entertain such characters as a gangster disguised as a priest, accompanied by a man-mad moll, an aristocratic eccentric, a night club singer, purporting to be an evangelist “in her spare time” and a host of Angels, who are anything but . . .

Besides confusing identities, there is an intriguing love triangle, which we hope will be resolved as successfully as the more mature pairing of a wealthy boss and an impecunious widow. With sumptuous costumes, exciting lighting, creative sets and an hilarious script, plus terrific tap, beautiful ballroom and cheeky Charleston routines, the bonus is the wonderful music of Cole Porter. Brought to life by a eight-piece Band, such memorable tunes as You’re the Top, It’s Delovely, Blow, Gabriel, Blow, Friendship and the show-stopping title number Anything Goes are too good to miss!

The students are also celebrating the news that at the NODA (National Operatic & Dramatic Association) Awards Ceremony in St Mellion, near Plymouth recently, a brand new award had been created and the very first recipient of the Youth Achievement Award is the Northavon Youth Theatre Company for last year’s outstanding production of ‘Miss Saigon’’. The award will be presented to the group by NODA South West Councillor Nick Lawrence, when he comes to see Anything Goes.
