Rodriguez World Cup hopes hang in the balance

Daily Echo: Jay Rodriguez is comforted by Rickie Lambert Jay Rodriguez is comforted by Rickie Lambert

Jay Rodriguez’s World Cup dreams hang in the balance after he was carried off following an injury sustained at Manchester City.

Saints’ top scorer landed very heavily on his right knee trying to control a ball midway through the first half of his side’s game at the Etihad Stadium.

Rodriguez appeared to be in tears of pain as he received treatment on the pitch and the swelling in his knee was so severe that it was decided to get him back to Southampton rather than take him straight to hospital.

That also means there is highly unlikely to be a signficant update on his condition for a few days as scans cannot take place to ascertain the full extent of the problem until the swelling goes down.

However, his teammates clearly feared the worst as they were visibly upset by the plight of their stricken colleague.

That looked so bad. I feel so sorry for the lad as his form was so good and his injury record is so clear generally. Get well soon J-Rod, I can only hope it's not as bad as it looked.

Feel for J-rod, he was in the form of his life and was really pushing for a place on the plane. hope its not as bad as looked but not feeling optimistic after hearing MP`s post match comments. we have managed to get players back quickly from ligament injuries before so hope they can work the magic needed if its that bad.
I don't think J-rod was in tears of pain, I think those tears were because he thought his world cup dreams are over.
was nice to see the ref comfort him and the city players wish him well. as others said the city fans were great to clap him from the pitch.
good luck in your recovery J-rod.

You are Cretin
CANESTEN, you really are the most foul of people aren't you. a young footballer has, what looks like, a very, very bad injury at is likely to take a long time to heal. that means the player, whos name you have used in a poor attempt to pretend to be a saints fan, hopes of going to the world cup with England look over.
and all you can do is come on here and abuse saints fans who are concerned for him. what type of person does that make you?
in all seriousness, and joking apart, you really need to take a look at yourself and where your life is going, you really really do.
you are the lowest of the low.
