Darlington 1883 3 Farsley 0

Farsley dropped out of the play-off places in Evo-Stik League Division One North after a defeat at second-placed Darlington but they still go into tomorrow’s home derby clash against Harrogate Railway with two games to rescue their promotion bid.

The reformed Darlington were hot favourites to win the title this term but they themselves are left battling to go up through the end-of-season extras. They ensured their place in the play-offs, and clinched runners-up spot, thanks to their victory over Farsley.

The visitors had chances but Iain Ward netted ten minutes before half-time to give Darlo a lead to take into the break. Amar Purwal scored soon after the interval and Leon Scott wrapped up the scoring after the hour-mark.

Farsley boss Neil Parsley said: “I was disappointed with the result but not by the performance of my players.

“There was not much to choose between the teams, so we’re not too downhearted because we’re still in the mix.

“We have a difficult game tomorrow against Harrogate and we will dust ourselves down and go again. But another performance like we had at Darlington will get us a win.

“We passed it about well but we just need to be more careful with our final ball.”
