CRICKETERS were left knocked for six after a 24-hour spell at the crease.

But members of Compton and Chandler's Ford Cricket Club have successfully completed their 24-hour charity bowl-a-thon.

Cricketers, ranging from 11 years old to the club’s president Mike Richardson, who is in his 70s, took it in turns to bowl constantly with someone at the other end batting for the whole time.

One player was even there for 15 hours bowling on and off.

The challenge, at Hampshire Collegiate School near Romsey, has raised around £1,300 so far for Wessex Heartbeat, which works to improve cardiac care, and the club.

Wessex Heartbeat was chosen as several members and members’ parents have benefited from the charity’s help.

Club secretary Martin Wood said: “It was really good – I was amazed – I thought it would be a lot slower than it was but everyone kept each other going.”
