Sholing are champions of the Sydenhams Premier Division with two games to spare.

A 3-0 win at Moneyfields tonight confirms that the overwhelming favourites have done as expected and taken the Wessex crown.

Lewis Fennemore gave the Boatmen the lead before late goals by Lee Wort and Ashley Jarvis gave them victory against a dogged Moneys, who hassled Sholing up until the final whistle.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Diaper, whose team played their 67th game of the season against the Portsmouth based side.

“It’s a brilliant result against a great team; they worked hard and gave us a few problems for the first 15 minutes with their shape.

“I’m really pleased, we had to dig in, we got our shape in the end and stopped them from playing and that second goal was the all-important one, I’m very happy we’ve done it.”

Diaper’s side struggled to contain Moneys for the first 20 minutes. Their sustained pressure saw Stuart Green try an audacious overhead-kick, which Lee Webber saved.

Full-back Rob Evans delivered a peach of ball across the face of the Sholing goal by neither Warren Hunt or Jake Raiwe could get a touch to turn it in the net.

The FA Vase finalists, who were without Matt Brown, Barry and Byron Mason and Marc Diaper, started to play better and found their feet.

Tyronne Bowers hit long balls into the box from a trio of free-kicks on the halfway line and powered a free-kick at ‘keeper Dave Hook, after Alex Sawyer was fouled.

The resulting corner saw Pete Castle head powerfully at the stopper, who was excellent all night.

On 36 minutes Fennemore flicked a header from Bowers’ corner into the net for the vital first, as he darted to the near-post, losing his marker, before finding the target.

Diaper said before the match that he expected a tough game and that’s exactly what he got. Despite having little to play for Moneys were keen equalise.

After a quiet first-half Marvin McLean, who returned from injury, began to show his trickery and pace. It saw him dance past a couple of Moneyfields defenders before thundering a well struck effort against the bar.

Wort got his 52nd goal of the season in all competitions on 79 minutes. The dangerous McLean jinked in from the right wing before passing across the box to substitute Kevin Brewster whose shot landed at the feet of Wort for him to turn and shoot home.

The third came as sub Nick Watts squared from the right to Jarvis who took a touch and slotted into the net.

Sholing are again in action on Thursday against Christchurch at the Silverlake Arena.
