Salmon Leap A failed in their bid for a league and cup double when they were beaten by arch rivals Players in the final of the Knock-out Cup.

The Leap side were 3-1 up at one point but lost out 5-3 – tasting defeat at the same stage of the the competition for the second year on the bounce. Players’ Gary Lloyd hit a maximum in his game and brother Graham checked out on 141, writes Clive Downton.

Apart from this blip, it has been another successful season for Salmon Leap A.

They won the league with a six-point cushion with a 9-0 victory over Normans. That match was not quite as one-sided as it sounds. Most legs went to 2-1 and the clash produced seven 180s – believed to be a record for the league. Both Nillson Pritchard and Lee Ward were unbeaten in the league singles.

Leap are also in the final of the Double-in Double-out Cup against the Normans at The Saxon on Monday.

Other top finishes in the league came from Gary Lloyd (Players) 130 and 120, Nathan Street (Salmon Leap A) 115, Tony Stickland (Elephant A) 102 and Lee Marsh (Normans) 100.
