Look at the table the defence is top 6 (goals against) the attack top7 (goals scored) .10 drawn games if we had converted 4 of these to wins today's game would be for 7th position.
We are not far away from being a top 6 side we have managed to open up a huge gap on the teams below us, so we need to keep this side together and make a few good additions to give us the depth we need to cover a whole season and the next Level is ours for the taking

This game simply encapsulates our season. Dominate a game, go ahead, but fail to win. What has consistently let us down is failure to kill off a game. Saints have only conceded 9 more goals than the Champions Man City but scored 48 (forty eight) less goals. It has been been argued consistently in posts that what is needed is to find a natural goal poacher - a 20 a season man. I know difficult but necessary in order to progress. A very interesting summer lies ahead - if not the next 3/4 weeks. I imagine all fans would like to see some positive progress made before the World Cup kicks off so we can all watch Lallana, Lambert & Shaw enhance their reputations in Brazil as Southampton players.

cant be too upset with a draw. neither side had much if anything to play for so it was never going to be a game to remember. I think a lot of players took their foot off the pedal and those looking to the world cup didn't want to get injured.
good to see roy using his season ticket again, sms must be one of his most visited grounds, was he here to have a last look at luke or clyne.
tomorrow we will see the squad announced and we all hope to see it full of our players, don't bottle it roy!

what a season it been, who would have thought we would be so comfortable in 8th place 6pts above 9th. we have played some of the best football I have ever seen a saints team play and have scared the `big` boys so much that they are desperate to break our team up in case we break up their hold on the champs league places.
come on saints, stick together get some exciting new players in and lets take on the big boys at their own game and give them the fright of their lives next season!

They continue to whine and say over and over and over they are the best team. The only problem with that is they spent the year in a nondescript league. They were early favorites to go up, but spent most of the year languishing ( hope that's not too big of a word for blue) in the relegation zone and only a few late wins made them an average league two team. They are light years from us and will remain so. All they are left with are jealous rants. Sad little blue.

Houghton never said that at all, stop making things up to suit your own twisted views.
what Houghton did wasgive 3-4 different opinions or views as to why lalla was taken off early, one of them was that he thought he might not be pulling his weight, which when you look at the ground covered, tackles and passes (well almost every stat) it shows that's not the case. in fact lallas stats beat almost every other attacking midfielder in the prem this season, not that you would bother with the truth! options Houghton didn't give, and the most likely are, 1. lalla runs himself into the ground for 60-70mins he is told to do this by MP knowing that he will be taken off andby playing harder for that time it might give us an edge early in the game.
2. MP knows that lalla is going to go to the world cup and in recent games has been `protecting` him from injury. MP knows that if lalla is picked to play for England whilst a saints player it gives us a better chance of keeping him here.
both are just as logical as the opinions of a pundit who at one point during the game said that cork should be sent off for a `rugby tackle` yet 10mins later said that a vidic tackle was `virtually the same` yet claimed that was only a yellow card!
as I say don't let facts and figures get in the way of your twisted views, and don't think that just because every pundit, except Houghton, is saying that lalla is a great player and should start for England in the world cup that it makes you wrong.

Did anyone notice that from the kick off we had 24-25 passes before a Manc actually got near enough to touch the ball, several similar moves happened throughout.
