Liverpool wasting no time in bidding for Lallana now transfer window is open - reports

Daily Echo: Adam Lallana Adam Lallana

LIVERPOOL have reportedly wasted no time tabling a bid for Saints skipper Adam Lallana once the summer transfer window had opened.

Saints chairman Ralph Krueger yesterday tea-time insisted the club had received no bids for any of their players or any approaches for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

But last night it was being reported that Manchester United were making a £27m bid for England left back Luke Shaw.

And this morning it is also being reported that Liverpool, fresh from finishing runners-up in the Premier League and therefore able to offer Champions League football, have made an official bid for Lallana.

The St Mary's skipper, speaking in yesterday's matchday programme for the visit of Manchester United, said his emotional speech at Saints' presentation evening last Tuesday did not indicate "this is the end by any means".

Lallana and Shaw are the two current Saints players on the longest contracts of any first team squad members - both have deals taking them through to the summer of 2018.

The summer transfer window opened at midnight last night and runs until the end of August.

Krueger yesterday said: "Any decisions that we take this summer will be made in the best interests of the Saints."

I so hope he doesn't go ! But if you watched how he waved to the crowd as he went of and how coy he was on the lap of honour he looked like a young man saying goodbye !

If he is off to the 'Champions League' then I don't think any of us can have a bad word to say against him, he's certainly kept me entertained BUT let's hope the new vision is enough to keep him at St Marys ..............

Good luck Adam !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has been reported every day for a couple of months now that some club or other has put a bid in for one or more of our players - Why should today be any different. The same tired old crap that was reported yesterday, the day before that and so on. If any of our crown jewels decide it is better for them to go somewhere else - we have no choice but to let 'em go if our price is met. There is nothing any player can do other than sulk about it - they are Saints players under contract. If our price is met they will go and we will re-build the squad the same we always have only this time it will be a stronger squad as opposed to sometimes in the past being a weakened one.

For me, the ideal situation would be for the club to get Poch on a new contract asap having giving him assurances that Adam and Luke are not for sale at any price and will both be Southampton players next season with a club statement to that effect by the end of the week.

Failing that, the club announcing that both Luke and Adam can leave the club in order to start a bidding war and with both leaving the club by the end of next week for huge deals, cash up front and sell-on clauses.

Unfortunately I get the feeling its going to be a long horrible nervous summer.

i think a lot of this rests with Poch staying put as im sure he will want assurances that the best players wont be sold, however if Adam does go he has stuck with us through very hard times and perhaps deserves a chance at some silverware sooner rather than later.I do think he will be a lot harder to replace than Luke.

Another bigger team might come in and keep him! Saints are on the up. Liverpool have had a good season but players want to player week in week out as well and be at a club where they are adored. It's not all about playing 6 / 7 games more in the Champions League if there is no chance being at a club that isn't going to win it!

He is happy on the South Coast and wants Saints to do well. Saints will do well if we keep him and all our best players! Simple!

I wouldn't be surprised if he does go and good luck to him if he does. He's been terrific for us for a number of years and wouldn't begrudge him a move away as he's reaching his prime. The board can only sell a vision to him as I doubt we can compete salary wise and can't offer Champions league footy.

I hope the board are great salespeople and he stays but if not then all is not lost, Gaston can step up next season and come of age.

And our record in buying new players (even if some of the money received is released for transfers - I can think of two who have been poor investments recently) is some what hit and miss at best - I for one would like to stick wih what we have got and build from there!

Liverpool have got Champions League next year, but it's just as likely they won't finish top four next year, meaning only one season.
Man Utd will strengthen this summer, so I am not sure the logic of 'offering champions league football' is actually any more than a one-off, in which case with a few additions we might even get in the next couple of seasons.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to go to Manure they looked distinctly average yesterday and don't have european football to offer. The current top 4 are likely to strengthen with the resources they have recieved from champions league qualification so thikn Man United may be about to spend a few years trying to return to top 4 so not really a step up for Shaw or Lallana if they went there. Lallana has been a great servant and stuck with us. I'd be sad to see him go but if Poch stays and we can offer him the chance to lead us into a challenge of breaking top 5 then maybe just maybe he'll stay...

Yep.

In honesty, if we were to get 30 million each for Luke and Adam...actually double that...if we were to get 60 million each for Luke and Adam it would be a phenomenal bit of business and difficult to refuse but....

In terms of quality I simply dont think we could replace them. I simply cant think of any player less than 60 million quid who could take their place, fit into the squad and our philosophy and do a similar job or having the potential those two guys have. I also dont think that anyone we brought would display the character or commitments to Saints but would rather be there for a big paycheck.

Manure paid £27.5m or Marouane Flellaini and Liverpool paid £35m for Andy Carrol.

Tell them to come back with a £40 million bid and we might start talking business.

So many players have thought the 'grass is greener' elsewhere, but how many times has it gone the wrong way. Both Lallana and Shaw are level headed and certainly Lallana deserves his opportunity for a career move as he has been very loyal. All of us would like both to get the Le Tiss syndrome and stay, but certainly for Shaw, he has time to stay before a move. He is only 18 and still has much to learn.
If you had asked Shaw twelve months ago where he would like to be in a years time, the answer would probably have been a regular first team spot. Well Luke , what other clubs would have given you the chances you have had this year? A permanent place in the team, under 21 caps and now a full England career.....all down to SFC.
Think carefully Adam (I expect him to go) and especially Luke. So many teams will use you as a part time player and leave you frustrated. Luke....leave it for another three years. You have time on your side....Real Madrid would be better for you.

Yes if the board are not prepared to go forward and invest again then some players may well leave. Yet being a club financially strong, if that was to be allowed it would be at our price not other peoples.

2 weeks ago he said there will be no fire sale..Now we have allegedly sold Shaw and Lallana, and look as though we have a problem with MoPo,..who I suspect is as much in he dark as the rest of us.
The board say they are going to be open with us..If that's the case why don't they put a statement out today on tv condemning the media and making it clear Adam and Luke are staying.
Not even a statement on the club website,or Liverpool and Man U website.
Could it be that these journalists are being briefed up by a disgruntled ex employee with a grudge against Katherina Liebherr..
Perhaps the club should have the matter investigated.
Journailsts are saying that they are being briefed up with these stories...so who is briefing them!
Unless the matter is cleared up there will be continuous conspiracy to weaken our club.

Mick,Derby

Sorry to say guys but lallana and shaw are leaving, you have to face facts to liverpool and United...why do you think the club has gone very very quite all of a sudden? we all know that the offers have been put in, but if saints were so sure that none of your players are leaving then it would be rejected straight away hands-down and reported on sky sports news/ on your website/ in the echo etc.
But it has not....your club has already faced facts that these 2 players want to move on with there careers....but you saints fans still believe they owe you, in real life / work environment we all look for better jobs/ better money to better our-selves....footba
ll is a place of work, your employed to do your job thats what lallana and shaw have done, now they what to better themselves, its there career....so who are you or the your club to stop them?!
