MATT Le Tissier has taunted Manchester United fans on Twitter about their club not qualifying for the Champions League.

The Saints legend has annoyed United fans on the social media site by saying Luke Shaw would be better off staying at St Mary’s rather than leaving this summer.

Using his Twitter feed @mattletiss7, Le Tissier tweeted: “It seems man utd fans are getting a bit touchy about me suggesting Luke shaw should stay at SFC a bit longer.”

He then delivered a damning follow up comment about United only finishing seventh in the Premier League in 2013/14: “And that if he does leave it should be for a champions league team??

Among the tweets Le Tissier received from United fans was one from leslie millman: “@mattletiss7 you had your choice in your day but u bottled it! U wanted to stay the big fish in a small pond and won nowt, so butt out MR!”

Another from Ben Durham said: “yep Shaw should stay at SFC so he can be a flat track bully who wins sweet fa through his career... oh wait thats @mattletiss7!”

The Saints Board could do with Matthew's expertise and should invite him on to the Board. At least he'd know what he's talking about

always amuses me that people rely on past experience to decide what the future holds.

don't they get that the Southampton Football Club in the PL currently is not being run in the same way as last time?
We're here to win stuff not sit back in cruise control

Hope Luke has good advisers who read the comments of some of those lowlifes with high expectations -the 'flat-track bully' bit sounds like hypocritical, transatlantic gobbledegook from the ones who will turn on their own,.
No class again from the spoilt, I want it now brigade, and this trickles all the way down through this monolithic dinosaur of a club.
They just don't get it, do they?
While they were flashing the cash again on Buttner, we were developing the likes of Luke. Whatever happens, we will continue to develop the likes of Luke and exude class at all times.

Well said Matt. I also think Luke Shaw would be mad to go to Man united. They only finished seventh and we would have finshed above them if Jay Rodriguez didnt get injured.

I'm getting exactly the same reaction from the plastics on social networks and work. They are oh so easy to wind-up. The thing is, they find it so hard to accept defeat, they don't know how to handle it, always resorting to there history. Funny that ! Sounds the same as those down the road.

Agree with you Matt.
I am fed up with all the so called big clubs thinking they have a devine right to just come and have the pick of our players, especially at a few far lower than we could replace that talent with.
Wish the new Board would come out and tell them all that we are no longer a selling club.
At 18 years old and potentially able to play at the top until he is at least 33 then he is worth an average of £5m per season (realistic by Bale's fee) over the next 15 seasons then his fee should be £75m !!

Yeah says a lot about the Man Ure fans doesn't it. Le Tiss doesn't have anything to answer to. He's a legend. He would have gone to Spurs anyway if any club. There's been plenty of players who have played for Man U and won nothing and there'll be plenty more. Saints have as much chance of winning trophies now as they do. Wigan won the FA Cup last season and Hull could win it this year so a bit brainless to make those comments.

Yeah, you get to sit on a nice cosy bench there while your partner is banging John Terry (allegedly). How tempting.
