RUMOUR MILL, May 15 - Napoli interested in Morgan Schneiderlin.

Daily Echo: Morgan Schneiderlin Morgan Schneiderlin

NAPOLI boss Rafa Benitez is being linked with a move for Saints midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.

The St Mary's star, 24, was this week included in France's list of stand-by players for the forthcoming World Cup after another impressive Premier League season.

Schneiderlin, who signed for Saints six years ago this summer, is contracted to the club until 2017.

The Daily Mirror claim former Liverpool and Chelsea boss Benitez is keen on Schneiderlin as he aims to build on Napoli's third place finish in Serie A this year.

After all the main tabloids had Mauricio Pochettino on their back pages yesterday, there is hardly a mention of the Saints boss in the red tops this morning wit regards to the now vacant Tottenham job.

"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less."

Just about sums up current media situation, people taking hearsay, rumours and mere conjecture and presenting it as fact.

Potch all over papers yesterday and nowhere to be seen today? Well, what a surprise! Just shows the Spurs story was just that.

Could he go? Of course he could - ditto AL, LS and others. Point is no one - least of all the media - currently have a clue because it's all happening as it should, behind closed doors and in private. Yes, we may not like it, but in some ways the silence is good because it shows the whole situation is being handled professionally and diligently. When things are decided, agreed, firmed up and otherwise sorted a statement will be made and not before.

Here we go again, are Southampton FC allowed to have a Team for next season, is it forbidden that Southampton have the same Manager and Players for next season, must they be stopped from being successful, another thought Benitez is going to Spurs isn't he ??? I hope Mauricio keeps up with BBC Sports news because if these rumours are true he must read facts from Clive Allen comments, Clive who like Tim Sherwood is Spurs man and very intelligent has spoken out that Levy is not a Football man but a brilliant Business man and if he understood Football he would not of sacked 9 Managers in 13 years.

In all the time I have watched and followed Southampton I have never known such an unsettled end of season as this year it's disgusting, one thing all the Supporters have in common is we do not want MP his Staff and any of the Players to leave Southampton Football because we've all seen what a wonderful set up it is and want more with a lot of success because like a good Wine we love the taste, so please these revolting Vultures go away and hassle another Team why not try Liverpool?

I wonder why the journos dreamt up Napoli. Oh yes, because ALL French midfielders either go to Italy or to a place beginning with N and Newcastle & Novara are both cr4p.

If (no more than that) Morgan leaves, and if it's not within the UK, it'll more likely be for PSG so that he can push his international claims.

Still worries me that SFC don't know their ar5e from their elbow at times.... we have not even got a kit for next season sorted and this is a pretty basic thing for a top-flight club really... if we sell two players for £50M then fair enough but if its 3 or more of our core then we are once again a selling club... I fear players are just too stupid to see their careers in a balanced way and AL and LS may well go the way of TW and AOC and become bench warmers for too often and not realise their potential... still money talks...

Why don't the echo bring back their saints transfer rumour page? They can then list our entire squad and all the teams who want them.

Christopher, from one Saint to another, I think the same as Malcombe. Was strange because having read the other posts it occurred to me that this must, repeat must, be the first time in living Premier League history, that a team from the Ashes of Phoenix has at last had a successful and unbelievably entertaining season and then be picked upon by the Press for total break-up!

It is just crazy. If all are true then just who will be left? This morning Spurs (ugh!) are now saying they also want JayRod.

Hardly ever does an initial bid secure a transfer. So why has the Board, who said they do not want to sell anyone, not told Manure or Diverpool to go away or said that the offers are too low and will not be considered.

I said it before but the Board's silence is, to put it mildly, very disconcerting.

Still fed up!!

I have to agree with you on this one if Morgan go I hope he goes to PSG not because Paris is my hometown and it's my local club but because he would walk into the team and replace lazy Motta ! Having said that the competition in the midfield is really tough there with Cabaye, Verratti, Motta, Matuidi and these future star Coman and Rabiot !. He still have a contract with the Saints and I believe it would be foolish for him to go because the club is like a few players away from top 5 next season.

Dear Mr Benitez
Thank you for your enquiry regarding Morgan Schneiderlin.Unfortu
nately he is one of our key players and is unavailable for transfer. We are however in the very fortunate position of being able to offer you another quality player. He is an Italian international of the highest quality and comes with the benefit that he is already in Italy. He is an extremely likeable character, gets on fantastically well with all of his teammates and his standards of behaviour are absolutely impeccable. In our traditions of helping out smaller clubs like your own we are prepared to let you have him for the bargain priceof £10mil. I can personally recommend him to you and guarantee that there will be "fireworks" whenever he plays.

Really?
There was an issue, the new regime tried to rectify it, they couldn't, so they ended that deal and will announce a new kit supplier in the next month or so.
Strikes me there are a few clubs and businesses that could learn a lot and so perform a lot better if they were to be as confused by their arses and elbows as you think we are!
Take all the media speculation as a compliment, the unfortunate flip side to yet another successful season from lazy journalism.
Clubs may have made enquiries, they may even have made offers. I've used this extreme example elsewhere: if we got an £80M pound offer the player would be gone, that is football.
It all hinges on the discussions and matching of ambitions between MoPo and the board. The good news: they're still going on quietly behind closed doors, and that's great!
Anything can happen in football of course, but Saints, arses and elbows?

Now if you were referring to the regime that got us in relegation free fall and almost put us out of existence you'd have a point!

Yay, I love to wake up to positive news in the morning, thanks Echo. Next season, I would urge the club to save us all a lot of anxiety and break the 'no contract talk until the end of the season' rule, which, as I've said previously, could potentially turn out to be very naive. It doesn't seem to be benefiting stability and I'm sure the players would prefer to be going on holiday with certainty about the manager and where the club is heading.

I have been thinking all about this. It is a comedy really.

Poch came to us having been sacked from Espanyol and not exactly overly well known. He has had 1 good season and now he is the hottest property in management. Is this really the case? Are we to believe that he would want to be the next fall guy at Spurs?

Then Lallana and Shaw have 1 great season and they are off. Then Schneiderlin to go, Chambers, Lovren...

Welcome to silly season. Agents want better deals for players (and a bigger cut) and papers have a lull before the world cup. There seems to be an agenda with the press to destabilise. If bids have been made for players why are they so public? Are we to believe that Liverpool and Man Utd run to the papers when they go to buy anyone?

I read an article on (spit) Daily Mail website yesterday saying "Saints players think Poch will go" and "Luke Shaw told his friends he is joining Man Utd" and "Lallana's friends comfirm he is interested in a move to Liverpool" Are we to believe their close friends are loose lipped and run to the Daily Mail? NO.

The Daily Mail have an agenda as the Sports team were close to Cortese.

My advice? Sit back enjoy the sunshine, get your beer fridges for the World Cup and let Saints sort themselves out in due course.

Does anyone know if owning a Newspaper is good business? A thought has come to me.

Would it be a good Idea for Southampton FC to have there own Newspaper solely for the Club, it would obviously contain every bit of honest and transparent News for all Supporters of the Club covering all the Teams down to the Juniors, it could be ready and distributed every Monday,If it went on the Internet it would include clips in Videos from every age group showing potential naturally gifted young Players to the first Team, a charge would be required like the Saints site that I and many others have to pay, by having there own Paper any rumours would of have to come from an Insider.

The Pink is a good Paper but it does cover Hampshire, The Saints Paper will only be the Clubs news, I think I'll make some inquiries and visit my Bank Manager today, one thing is certain, it would always be Thumbs up, I can dream can't I?

If (no more than that) Morgan leaves, and if it's not within the UK, it'll more likely be for PSG so that he can push his international claims.
Good to see Morgan break into the fringes of DD's World Cup squad, isn't it? As you say, Motta is lazy and that worries me if PSG were to come knocking for Morgan. I even wonder if his elevation by DD comes on the back of some yet to be revealed transfer (to PSG or Liverpool?) that isn't yet public.

What you mean tell the truth? Save your money, it'll never catch on. You see if next years headlines are always "Saints maintain their 8 point advantage at the top of the league again" people will just get bored. If you go for it you are going to need to be a little more dramatic. Something like "Saints lead expected to be reduced to 5 points after Clutter brain announced as next Saturday's ref" or "MoPo off to Spuds to escape the rumour he has fathered five children with five different players wives"

I dearly hope that the board don't make any decisions on player sales until the management situation is sorted (and let's face it they'd be mad to consider it and be going back on everything they've said in the past). Spurs may well bring in someone else anyway. And, if he does go to Spurs, considering we will not be short of offers for our top players, I don't want to see one single player following him there. It should be an 'over my dead body' moment for the board IMHO.

Actually, I have just thought up a way of stopping all this speculation.
Firstly, all fans, players and officials will have Kim Jong Un haircuts to help prevent recognition and all matches will be played without any media present and all fans, officials and players will be sworn to secrecy.
Only the final score will be released and the scorers and quality of the performances will only be known after a period of 5 years have elapsed. That way, there will be no poaching of players, no tapping of of players and all agents will disappear forthwith.
I await any further additions to this master plan.
A few exceptions may be granted to Southampton Football Club because, well, we don't need a reason!
In this perfect world, Pompey will be sent down another two divisions.

We don't want to lose anyone, but if we do we MUSN'T lose Poch.

Let's say we lose Luke and Adam, if Poch is still with us he is more than capable of bringing in replacements. Not an easy task, I grant you.

If Poch goes I don't think we could get a replacement approaching his talent. With Poch at the helm and a sizeable transfer kitty, we could keep Lovren, Jay, Morgan and Clyne, bring in new talent and push on for European qualification.

So all will not be lost, IF we KEEP Poch!!!

A clear indication of why paid-for papers like The Times will always be better than the agenda-riddled and joke that is The Daily Fail.

Since Cortese left they haven't covered a single Saints story with any semblance of impartiality and it's beginning to get really boring.

Maybe it's the relationship they had with Cortese, maybe it's the fact that the back slapping, old buys thing really appeals to their political outlook.

God forbid that a medium sized club threaten to undermine the illogical and unsustainable modern game of football!!!

Really?
Now if you were referring to the regime that got us in relegation free fall and almost put us out of existence you'd have a point!
Great riposte.
I would suggest to the original poster that it's fine to have concerns and maybe post those concerns as a question to see if anyone has a more logical conclusion to that concern than he is currently arriving at.
To come out with emotive and ill-conceived comments as constructive as they don't know what they're doing, or however you worded it is a little foolish.
The reason these people are running our beloved club is because they are intelligent and restrained enough not to jump to overemotional conclusions and everything they do is considered. Won't stop 'em making the odd mistake or two (they are human too) but I am confident they make fewer mistakes than the they don't know their arises from their elbow merchants.

Welcome to silly season. Agents want better deals for players (and a bigger cut) and papers have a lull before the world cup. There seems to be an agenda with the press to destabilise. The Pink is a good Paper but it does cover Hampshire, The Saints Paper will only be the Clubs news, I think I'll make some inquiries and visit my Bank Manager today, one thing is certain, it would always be Thumbs up, I can dream can't I?
What you mean tell the truth? Save your money, it'll never catch on. You see if next years headlines are always "Saints maintain their 8 point advantage at the top of the league again" people will just get bored. If you go for it you are going to need to be a little more dramatic. Something like "Saints lead expected to be reduced to 5 points after Clutter brain announced as next Saturday's ref" or "MoPo off to Spuds to escape the rumour he has fathered five children with five different players wives"
A Saints spokesman said at a press conference this morning that the club has nothing to say on anything concerning the club as the fact that in the Chairman's personal toilet has red and white toilet paper in it is considered too important to discuss until the board has made their decision at the next AGM.
Questions on whether Saints trained at Staplewood this morning were met with a statement from their PR official that said Southampton doesn't make comments concerning their training.
How could you sell ads in a periodical/daily that had nothing to say.

Nope as much as I get het up about the carp I see in the papers and as many times as I tell my self it is nonsense, untrue, BS I still want to read it 'cos that give me something to rant about - the same as most of us who post on here. .

Only one flaw with your plan ,I'm afraid Jinx.It would have to have had the approval of the World Football Governing Authority,Hansen Lawrenson and Savage,so its dead in the water.

I`m not sure if this is true, as I`m not a big believer on the things I read on twitter, but just seen a tweet on adam blackmores page @bigadamsport suggesting that NC had to b talked out of sacking MP in December by senior players!
now I`m not a big user of twitter and as I say I`m not sure if this has come from adam himself but he did later respond to questions by saying he was told by someone who would know. being the commentator for solent he would have access to the players and staff of SFC so who knows?
OSPREY you know a bit about twitter, any chance you could have a look as well? just to check if its from adam or just another rumour.

Again I don't know if this is a real adam tweet so don't moan at me if its wrong!

The story about NC is indeed on twitter and not 606, I can well believe it and if true Poch should honour those senior players by staying around for them at least until his current contract is valid. That is my opinion of course and not the Gospel according to St. Luke or anything.

Well if it is true it just goes to show that there is a very strong bond between MP an the players. As you say if, and it is if, the players saved MP you would think he is the type of person who would stick around. but then I don't know him just going by what ive seen him say.

Maybe NC wasn't the good guy you all thought he was ! Didn't he tender his resignation in September/ October not long after Frannie was welcomed back .Then in December there was a major fallout with Adidas. In January SRL was about to be sold to West Ham when Osvaldo saved the day by allegedly head butting Fonte . Since then there have been rumours of someone who used to be close to the club trying to destabilise it. Go back even further to the sacking of NA and the bad publicity that caused , the problems with Frannie and contractors and then the shirt fiasco. I cannot have been the only one who heard the rumour of the proposed change of name from Saints ! Maybe that was a step too far for KL. Then again I never was a fan of NC and yes I do like conspiracy theories ! All this is just my opinion because I don't know anyone involved in any way with the club. Have to say though does anyone really believe that NC would let the players talk him out of anything he was determined to do ?

The Rise of The Foot Soldier. says...

We have a fantastic group of players and they are as ambitious as the fans.
There are no limits and the only thing holding us back (fans players and manager) is a bigger squad. We reached a high of 3rd and finished 8th. we should add players and go for the Premier league Crown - the worst that can happen is to do a Liverpool and finish 2nd or an Arsenal and finish 4th with Champions League Football.

It is realistic to post this as with investment in another Keeper takes us to 60 + points to cover the games that Artur has a back injury and with a cutting edge that fires in the goals then we are looking overhauling Everton and Spurs.

if we have the ambition - then the Players will stay. We can also a regular team at wembley with more depth to the squad.

The future is greatness and many more happy year in the Premiership.

Looking forward to giving support to the lads in Brazil with the England Supporters. We really are a top team with a fantastic bunch of fans.

This media speculation is getting to be beyond a joke and needs to be stopped asap.
All the top 7 clubs are worried that we will push in among them next season so are out to ensure we don't.
Les & Ralph sort out MoPo's extended contract, state that we are not selling any of our best young stars and get on and sign a couple of top players quickly, that would shut them up.
DO NOT ALLOW THIS GROUP OF PLAYERS AND MANAGER TO BREAK UP it has taken 5 years to build and the vision was to push on again not back ! Sort it out quickly Les Reed & Ralph Kuger.

Where on earth did you get the idea that anyone thought he was a good guy? I haven't heard anyone say that they liked him, they only liked what he did for us, that's not the same thing at all. I do remember a long way back that he said if any Manager had four defeats in a row he would look into the possibilty of replacing him! The fact that he didn't sack Poch would suggest a lessening in his resolve and a lowering of his influence, in which case it was the right time to go.

Yes this really could be very embarrassing for our club. This foolish billionairess and our chief executive who is at the top of his profession and guided Canada to a gold medal clearly need to be told where their a$$ and their elbows are. We could be starting the season with only 4 players in our side and they are going to have to suffer the embarrassment of playing without shirts. So I've given this a great deal of thought and I believe I have come up with the answer. We simply paint red and white stripes on their skin. This will be very innovative and will have the added benefit that no defender will be able to tug our shirts at all, especially during corners. The biggest downside is that this will seriously effect shirt sales and it'll be darned cold forthe fans in the winter.

I've used this extreme example elsewhere: if we got an £80M pound offer the player would be gone, that is football. Anything can happen in football of course, but Saints, arses and elbows? Really?
