Guly do Prado has been released by Saints, along with fellow forwards Lee Barnard and Jonathan Forte.

The club this morning announced the out-of-contract players who would either be kept on or let go this summer, with Brazilian Guly, who joined the club in 2010, representing the most high-profile departure.

The 32-year-old made 118 appearances during his time at St Mary's, scoring 23 goals.

Barnard and Forte, who had not played for Saints in the Premier League, have also been released.

Saints have offered new deals to youngsters Cody Cropper, Lloyd Isgrove, Sam McQueen, Omar Rowe and Jake Sinclair, all of whom were involved with the first-team at some stage during the most recent season.

Elsewhere, ten players from the club's development squad and academy have been let go.

They are Matt Young, Joe Curtis, Andy Robinson, Jamal Branker, Fraser Colmer, Corby Moore, Charlie Higgins, James White, Tom Leggett and Isaac Nehemie.

What with all the speculation with us loosing all of out best players and Mopo, the Saints FC Board finally go and top it all with this. I doesn't seem that long ago when the so called top PL teams feared St Mary's, when the fans broke out in song of "we've still got Guly on the bench" Since the arrival of the new board things are looking really bleak, and we as fans can only look upon the future with outrage and dispair as Saints dwindle in to obscurity like the blue few down the road.

Only joking :), however I am already missing watching our team play, and it's only been a week. Can't wait for the World Cup and the start of the new season. COYR's.

It's interesting to note that Guly's appearance and goals record at Saints is similar to Andy Carroll's career record of appearances and goals. And what has Carroll ever been blamed for?

One thing is certain Guly is/was a better footballer than Carroll.

To all those who accused MoPo of disrespecting the FA cup, please note no TV build up to the match, in days gone by both BBC and ITV would start around midday with full coverage of the final. Now its just another game and does not have the appeal it once enjoyed.
So all the money merchants have allowed this icon of football to fall from it's lofty perch to just another match, progress? No I think it's very sad.

Shame, but he had to be released never had the gumption. . Will remember a great goal he scored against Blackpool in the cup , received ball 20 yards out , turned and fired a cracker of a shot past keeper. Will also remember ducking out of header against "them" which resulted in 1-1 after Ricky headed us the lead.
Best of luck Guly , you were on the bus from league 1 to prem...remember that. :)

Those who understand football know when a player is giving his all and playing for the shirt. Another in that long list of ex-Saints that will be appreciated by the club's true support. Best of luck for the future.

Thank you very much, Guly. Your 23 goals in 118 games and your playing time helped Saints to get into the Premier League, I am grateful. You definitely qualify as a true Saint. For the record, nothing has ever been your fault, except that you have always done your best to help Southampton FC.

Thank you Lee. In common with Guly, you also helped Saints get into the Premier League and you are a true Saint.

Thank you Jonathan. You are also a true Saint. Your playing opportunities have been limited, but I am sure that, along with Guly and Lee, you have helped Saints by always being professional and showing the youngsters at the club the good example of how professional footballers go about their daily routine as part of a very good group of players.

Thank you to all the released Saints youngsters. The club has given all of you a great football education and also educated you to be good young men. So much in football is about opinion. You still have opportunity to be professionals and impress more elsewhere. Go and do it! Good luck!

Lastly, Dani Osvaldo, you are no prima donna. You qualify only as a prime doughnut, certainly not as a Saint! It is definitely not Guly's fault. It is Dani's fault!!!

oh yeah but the danger of an outsider getting into the CL instead of a cash cow big four club is far to egalitarian.

it might be that he doesn't need the old track suit because we have finished with adidas, keep an eye out for a new track suit you might know who our new suppliers are.
nice gesture though. I got given some old training kit from the `pony` days once, and it still fits (well just!)

Lol.

Rumours seem more positive at the moment, I'm more optimistic than I was. If Kat didn't want to push on she would have cut and run as the timing was perfect for an exit.

Good Luck Guly, hope that no one else leaves other than Osvaldo maybe.

Katharina has committed to the club so we are more financially stable than I can recall in over 50 years of supporting Saints. OK Nichola has gone and some new impressive people appointed to the board with assurances that the progression will continue. Nothing else has changed in the managerial, coaching or playing squad. They all signed longer contacts to but part of the development of Saints which has successfully moved on again this season and is looking to build to push on again next season.
There seems to have been a great team unity built up, so what has happened to make them all want away at only the start of what they signed up to ?
They should all give it at least one more season to see how much further progress is made, if there is not any, then consider moving on at the end of next season, you are all young enough.

I was in Palamos last summer to witness the fans singing if Guly scores we're on the pitch. Guly scored the fans invaded the pitch & he must have wondered what the hell was happening. He took it in good spirit & did have a rapport with the fans. He was our marmite player you either loved or hated him.
I've enjoyed his goals on our ascent up the leagues back to the Premiership but he just doesn't have the quality needed in the Premiership.
Good luck Guly & thanks.

Good luck to all those who are leaving.

It's tough for the youngsters; I hope many of them manage to find something in football - look to Rickie for inspiration.

Lee and Jonathan both played their part in our rise. Good luck to both.

Guly? There were many good moments and two facts speak volumes - 23 goals and one of the best assist rates in the Championship.

His man-of-the-match performance in the 4-2 win at Coventry showed what he could (but didn't always) do - yet the kn0bs still booed him.

However, whilst he's probably not the level we need if we want to push regularly for Europe, three recent games spring to my mind which suggest that he was okay in the Prem.
1. The game against the Gooners in which he scored the own goal. The goal was not his fault, just bad luck. For the rest of the game, he was - like the other Saints that day - superb. We should have won.
2. The game at Spuds last year. We outplayed them but couldn't score. Guly got injured and went off and it was no coincidence that Bale suddenly found more space.
3. The heavy defeat (5-1) against Chelsea in the Cup at the end of Nigel's reign. He played wide - in front of Shaw from memory - and was one of the few who didn't look out of sorts that day.

Good luck St Guly!

This chap Guly who are you all praising, is this the same player as the one who was arrested for drunk driving in his Porsche at 4.30 in the morning outside a lap dancing club? Just as we were starting in the Premier League, when performance and results in games depend on a few inches extra pace and fractions of a second faster thought, he showed where his priorities lay by getting blotto into the small hours and cruising round town in a car that cost as much as many season ticket holders' houses. Did I mention that he bottled his defensive header at Fr*tt*n P*rk and let them score their equaliser? Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Trouble is he is on Premiership money or top Championship money at the very least. So unless he gets a long term contract elsewhere he's likely to hang around and take the money. Can't blame him but he has done very well out of being a Saints player. Another loan methinks.

the problem is he is a championship player on premier wages ! again as with Banard and Fonte last season no one would take them and match their wages even on a free. so it will be one more year of loan deals with saints topping up his money until he is out of contract. Saints are still paying the cost of promotion, although it is a small one, not like paying for an F.A. cup.

9g The man is a Southampton FC legend no matter what anyone says. All those that booed him as early as 2 years ago whenever he came on need to look at themselves properly. The man gave his all every single time, so who can blame him when people start to boo before he even touches the ball? Sometimes it shocks me with what we as fans are capable of.
There was even a Facebook page aimed at hating him. He gave his best, survived three managers and gave us some depth this last couple of seasons to cover injuries etc. To boo any player of your own coming on is to ask to lose. I remember being in Germany in 06 when the Engerland booed Hargreaves when he came on yet he went on to be one of our best players in the tournament. Bizarre.

I think the way Guly was treated by a certain section of SMS was absolutely disgusting. No player should ever be subjected to boos from his own supporters just for coming on as a sub!
Guly was great for us in the lower leagues and I suspect those who booed him weren't on the bus before we got back to the prem. I hope he gets picked up by another club soon.
thanks for the great goals Guly.

Yeah, I was at that game when Hargreaves was booed (I'm even wearing the t-shirt!), bloody stupid mentality... saw the same thing happen at Eurovision this year, the crowd booing whenever Russia were given any points, even though the current cr@ppy political situation has nothing to do with a pop contest. Daft.

Good luck to Guly and all the others who've been released, you all had a positive influence and will be revered for years to come.

Whilst I didn't like the Drink Drive incident -going to court in Jacket Tie and split jeans was asking to have the book thrown- I would like to Thank You G de P for your service to my Saints.
Your versatility and adaptability, skill and speed of thought, numerous assists and a more than reasonable return of goals, made you a good fit with most of your peers, managers and the thinking fans. I apologise for the inane and anonymous booing which most of us would be without, probably perpetrated by embittered traitors or imposters who've forgotten how to back a team.
Hope you enjoyed the ride, and sincere good luck for the future.

Enjoy! Are you here for a day or longer? You can find me via the Echo Saints Facebook Forum if you want a tour of the local Irish Pubs :)
Ta for the offer. Unfortunately we are seeing Europe - alright, the Rhine - in eight days, so we are being herded around Petty France and any other 'quaint' sights they can find in half a day.
So I have to passon your kind offer.

Just wanted to record my appreciation of Guly and wish him all the best. A really fine player without whose game winning goals in the first half of that season we wouldn't have been promoted to the Prem. My two favourite memories: his sublime flicked header from Fox's cross v Coventry away to make it 3-2 after losing our two goal lead, topped only by his lay-off to de Ridder for the equaliser v Reading away. Now if that was a Brazilian that did that....

Just watching these great goals makes you realise that Guly was actually a very handy goal scorer outside of the PL:
