Walton Bridge has been named as the winner of an Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) award.
The £32m bridge, which opened to traffic last July, won the community award at the London Civil Engineering awards last night.
The judging panel said the construction of the new bridge was an example of engineering giving “real value to the community” and had “genuine community engagement from inception to completion”.
The project, created by Surrey County Council, Costain and Atkins, was also praised for being delivered on time, on budget and with no injuries.
Miranda Housden, director of ICE London, said: “This project, and indeed all of the winning projects, showcase the vital contribution of London’s civil engineers in keeping our ever-growing capital city moving. Congratulations to all involved. ”
