Eastleigh have completed their second high profile strike signing of the week.

Just a few days after landing Oxford United’s James Constable, the Conference Premier newcomers have snapped up Jack Midson on a two-year contract from AFC Wimbledon.

Midson was an Oxford colleague of Constable when the U’s won promotion from the Conference Premier in 2009/10.

He subsequently signed for AFC Wimbledon, finishing as League 2’s joint top scorer with 18 goals in 2011/12, his first season at Kingsmeadow.

The 30-year-old went on to scored 15 goals for the Dons in 2012/13, but only managed seven in 40 league and cup appearances last season.

Eastleigh boss Richard Hill said he was keen on signing Midson as soon as he learnt the play was to become a free agent.

“I have been speaking to Jack for a few weeks now, desperately trying to get this deal over the line,” Hill explained.

“Like James Constable, Jack is an extremely ambitious lad and, to come and play in the Conference, he needed to be convinced that we’re not going into this league just to tread water.

“Jack has committed to us for the next two years and, once more, that speaks volumes for this club’s long-term aspirations. “We are all looking forward to welcoming a player of Jack’s pedigree and goal-scoring ability into what we consider is already a high-quality squad’.

The Stevenage born man began his career 13 years ago with his home-town club, before moving on in 2003 to Arlesey Town. Midson had subsequent stops at Dagenham & Redbridge and Bishop’s Stortford, but it was on moving to Histon that he announced himself to a wider audience.

The forward’s 20 Conference Premier goals in 2008/2009 helped the Stutes all the way to the semi-final of the season ending play-offs
