WILTSHIRE ladies’ team, named after the three trial games for the opening 2014 inter-county championship match of the season, contains eight local players.

June Corbett (Town Gardens), Babs Salter (Wroughton), the Purton duo of Alison Fail and Chris Mitchell, Janet Willis (Stratton Churchway), Josie Lloyd (Westlecot), Linda Kingston (Highworth) and Wootton Bassett’s Lucy Smith have all been selected for the Johns Trophy match, next Saturday, May 31.

Teenager Smith will be making her Wiltshire Johns Trophy debut as will Wendy Gaisford (Devizes) and Avon’s Marcia Hartley in the first trophy group game of the 2014 campaign against Cornwall at Culm Vale.

The trio are all named in the same rink, which will be skipped by Winsley’s Sandra Bartlett. Hartley will play at lead, Smith at two while Gaisford will be number three to Bartlett.

Wiltshire will certainly be seeking better fortunes in this year’s Johns competition after finishing bottom of their west section last season.

This year in the same section they will host Cornwall next Saturday, then entertain Gloucestershire at Devizes on June 21 and conclude their group matches two weeks later at Culm Vale against Devon on Saturday, July 5.
