Southampton striker Rickie Lambert reveals that he has passed a medical ahead of his transfer to boyhood club Liverpool

Rickie Lambert's move to Liverpool looks set to be confirmed on Monday, after the striker revealed he passed a medical this morning.

The 32-year-old is due to sign a two-year contract at the club he supports, with the Reds paying up to £5m, plus add-ons.

Lambert, who travelled to Liverpool this morning, said: "The medical went well, but I can't say anything.

"There's a lot of emotions as you can imagine."

The England forward, who was an unused substitute in last night's 3-0 World Cup warm-up win against Peru at Wembley, added: "I'll speak properly about it hopefully shortly, but I can't say anything at the moment.

"It's been a crazy couple of years to be honest, and it looks like it's carrying on.

"Hopefully I will be able to speak properly on Monday."

I just hope when he comes back to our ground he gets the thanks this guy deserves. He stated he could'nt talk today but hoped to speak about it on Monday.

Are you calling rickie a judas for this? If you would happily begrudge this man a move to Liverpool, then you are obviously very narrow minded. I'm gutted he's going, but at the same time chuffed to bits for him. This is a fairy tale story that no sane man would want to interrupt.

Who's Next? Lallana will, I imagine, be the next player to be knowingly undersold by Freddy & Co! Perhaps the bookies will run a Southampton Seven/Nine where one guesses the order of sales!

This summer's Premiership Farewell Sale is a sad time for Saints' fans.
The task of keeping Saints up next season will be made harder exponentially by each top player sale.

Liverpool is laughing because it has injured a potential rival in Saints by buying SRL and playing him on the bench. Saints lose a great striker and assist provider whose quality they cant replace for £3-4m. With this model repeated with other Saints' players, then surely, even the happy clappers can see that we will be relegated? If one wants Euro Football, one builds the squad gradually; letting players go on the cheap is a sure way to disaster.

Get a grip, it's obvious reference to Potchettino who lied through his teeth the last 6 months of his tenure and let's not forget he was getting his Salary in that time, his mind was set on leaving and that's what has got up the Supporters noses, he wasn't a dedicated Saint he Managed behind another façade I cannot believe it was happening it's disgusting and I honestly think he'll use Spurs as another stepping stone he's not to be trusted, we've been fooled but good may come out if it for the exciting Football we saw and the Board want more as do the Supporters, we like the brand of Football the the bonding of Players etc but lets not forget the Team lost 18 games with 62% possession so it's not all that wonderful but it was exciting. .

We are all gutted that Rickie has gone he's a hero and will be remembered for many years in the History of SFC, he appears to be a shy modest man who is very likeable and to think there's rumours Liverpool will have 3 or 4 Southampton Player we are all gob smacked. We do not know who the Team will be next season if the rumours come true and we lose Adam, Dejan and Luke, we do not want them to leave but they are replaceable and we have to be patient because I will not slag off the Board, the Players call the tunes and Contracts are worthless it's horrible but it's Football. Nearly every day for weeks there has been depressing news but the Board will not want to drop there vision to keep progressing onwards and upwards and they need all the Supporters to back there judgement and not think Mickey Mouse will be the Manager next season, come on you lovely Supporters cheer up!!!

Rickie's departure was a surprise and a very hurtful one, but it's clear that despite our disappointment the vast majority of Saints wish him well. Our club has transformed his career, but he's given a huge amount back and will be assured of a warm welcome if and when he plays at St Marys again (though to be honest the thought of him in an opposition shirt at our place is very far from a happy one).

He never made any secret about his passion for his home town club and I remember his excitement in an interview (after we won promotion to the Prem) talking about the prospect of playing at Anfield.

I have no doubt he'll have good words to say about Saints on Monday and there's also no doubt that he'll mean every word. Good luck Rickie and thanks.

And if he gets involved in persuading his close mate Adam to join him?

No one begrudges his dream move. However, we are being told the call came from Liverpool after Kunt Kruegers speech on Thursday. That they told us it had to be done by the weekend or it was off. What's that about? Why didn't they approach before? Why the sudden rush? How did they know they could agree a deal with the player when he was with England? Wasn't illegally tapped up by Gerrard then?

Just seen the interview. When asked if he'd spoken to Gerrard about it he said he'd been speaking to him for the last few months....

A phone call on Thursday saying we want to buy Rickie but only if completed this weekend is outrageous. It was deliberate and calculated to push a weak and frail board into a panic reaction. It's a cheap way to bolster their squad now they've qualified for CL. Given 20% goes to Rovers and that he is the Talisman for the fans and more importantly the players it's a bad deal. If MoPo hadn't gone then maybe, but this won't help persuade the rest to stay will it?

So, bad as it is already Seed and fed up as most of us are, your point is that it's actually much worse than than it seems. Not only is our glass more than half empty, but it's cracked. And we'll cut our lip on it.....and then we'll chip a tooth.

Light at the end of the tunnel? No - it's an oncoming train.

You are obviously very angry (and maybe even keen to prepare us for yet more depression, doom and dread) But where does it get us? What exactly do you realistically think should happen? Should we kidnap the Kunt and chuck him into the Solent in a weighted sack and then abuse Katherina so much that she sells up. And then walk back into St Marys with King Nicola held high and declared Chairman and sole director for life? Heil Nicola!

Come on mate - tell us what are you hoping for? Is it just a big black hole we're looking at - or a doughnut?

The big movers today in the next manager market are McClaren and Dyche. I will get behind whoever we appoint but if I am honest I would be disappointed with these options.
I may be a little impatient but I feel that a new manager appointment soon I a MUST. It will help reverse the negative media frenzy eg Daily Mirror...9 players could leave.
Whilst most people know the media has agendas to sell newspapers, the reporting is very unsettling for all connected to the club. For example, I am checking the websites almost every hour, waiting for the next story to break. I am not used to seeing Saints news on the headline screen of Sky Sports We seem to be the only story at the moment.
Lets reverse this negative reporting an announce a new manager BEFORE any more of our players are targeted by media and then other clubs.

so what your saying is, if ive got this right, diverpool are so devious that they are willing to spend £4mill+ add ons (and we don't know what they are) and £40k a week for 2 years or £4.16mill +bonuses, that's a minimum of £8.16mill on a player who will take up a valuable squad position, on the off chance that he might convince another player to ask to join. this so that they can save around £5mill on his transfer? oh and if that player puts in a transfer request he losses his bonuses which usually the buying club cover, which would cost the even more.

I think Rickie's signing makes perfect sense for Liverpool. It gives them a plan B in attack, and that's something they'll need because a lot of teams will have figured them out and spent the summer coaching on how to defend against an attack that depends almost entirely upon pace. He's there on his own merits and, in my opinion, I think it'll make our board less likely to be willing to lose two players to the same club.

Who they appoint as the new manager/coach will sway my feelings as to whether they are wanting to push on, or stagnate. I don't think any deals will happen now until the new guy Is installed, the Rickie deal I think was a real left fielder and took them by surprise. Innit. Markus died, like, four years ago. Who do people imagine has been bankrolling our incredible success since then? I just don't understand how people can turn on Katharina so quickly, especially after seeing her smiling face at St Marys last season. Someone intent on asset stripping wouldn't do that. I think she wants to build - really build.

Indeed, why would she appoint RK as chairman if her intention was to smash up her fathers legacy. Old ralphy boy is involved with the World Economic Forum.

Embarrassing for our board after strong statements about keeping players before a new manager comes in. Fair enough admitting you're a novice and learning as a chairman, but ffs go and learn in league one and give us a call when you're ready for the big league. The only reason every big club hovers around our amazing young players is because they can smell blood with our "new" and unproven weak senior management team. Completely out of their depth it's obvious.

I agree with you that Rickie is also my favourite ever Saints player. Now because of where I live a lot of friends and people I know are Liverpool fans and they can,t get their heads around this one,but the most popular opinion is why does he want to come to Liverpool to sit on the bench.I can,t say I disagree with the sentiment but hope for Rickies sake he is not being used as a make weight to attract Adam lallana to the cause, however my opinion hasn,t changed from last night,I really despair for our future.May be playing poopey sooner than we thought.
I wonder if the home grown players rule may have something to do with it as well.

yes if person who was intent on asset stripping also appoint Kate Terry as the new head of marketing, moving to us from Apple in London and a new chief financial officer?
you don't have to agree with every decision the board make but a least have a bit of common decency in posting your disapproval. if we get a good manager who brings in some great players whilst keeping most of the current team there are going to be a lot of people with egg on their faces.
there has been a lot of rubbish, rumour, guess work, wrong facts, wums and really awful name calling on here over the last week and I hope the club does what most of us want it to do and progress, if they do I hope a lot of the name callers etc will come back and apologise, though I genuinely think that some would moan even if we finished 4th!
forget NC he isn't coming back, he wasn't the `great man` some think he was and if he was still here MP and rickie wouldn't be, people have selective memories and forget he wanted to sack MP and was selling rickie to hoof (I mean hoof ffs) until Osvaldo went loopy!

What I fail to understand is this, from his first appearance in a Saints shirt to his last he always said how much he loved SFC and how much he loved playing for us and wanted to end his career with us. Only since the AL request was refused out of the blue and like a curve ball LFC turn his head and suddenly want him. Didn't want him last year when he was the top English scorer in the Prem did they? Funny that the deal had to be done so quickly RL was railroaded into it. This the same club he supported and his boyhood club that released him. Seems the start of his career and end will be a huge disappointment for him when they dont appreciate him and he is not a loved talisman just a bench warmer. All this to get AL. Thousands of angry, disappointed Saints fans and a managerless team of unsettled players. Always a Saint and I don't begrudge him his dream but I think he is just being used but sadly his head was turned and he is yet to realise it. I think perhaps when he finally talks about the move his words might prove this.

Thousands of angry, disappointed Saints fans and a managerless team of unsettled players. Always a Saint and I don't begrudge him his dream but I think he is just being used but sadly his head was turned and he is yet to realise it. I think perhaps when he finally talks about the move his words might prove this. chapellady

Rickie has lifted us to our rightful place in the hardest league in word football.
From a pure sentiment side of looking at Rickie's move,it is another step in this Roy of the Rovers tale.
Can only be followed by a winning goal in the WC.then a champions league winners medal.

RIGHT, sentiment aside-----------!

I AM GUTTED HE HAS LEFT, HAD SO MUCH MORE TO DO!
....................
......
SHOUTING NOW!!!!!!!!!!

I have watched ,without doubt the best consistent football played by any Saints team in my 50+ years of supporting.
I have never seen such a negative and continued unsettling onslaught on our club and players through the media,as in this last 6 months.
Are we such a challenge to the so called big boy cartel, that they see us as a threat that has to be removed back into their "place".i.e.( the small provincial team somewhere on the south coast.)?

If everything is to be believed, any of us supporters walking past SMS next season could be dragged in to play, such is the potential of all our first team leaving.
Joking aside--- This is seriously damaging for our great club.
Rickie's departure could be the catalyst for more.

!!!!!! MAN-UP SAINTS BOARD !!!

Tell the sharks -----

--------- NONE OF OUR TEAM ARE FOR SELL!!!!!!-----

One very p1ssed off supporter!!

OVER and OUT

COYS.

Freddie Krueger has been instructed to sell your best players and make as much money as possible for the owner, what's wrong with that ? Makes good business sense to me, she's already worked out how to make more money, just bring some more players through your academy and sell them on later to the top teams. Shaw to UTD by the end of the week.

Yes, but LeGod tried to cheer us up yesterday. Think he did, as well!

I wonder why if, and quite rightly, Rickie is SRL, why is Matt not Sir LeGod?

As you say Tom, he stayed through thick and thin. Never forget that goal against Newcastle at The Dell. Wonderman!

Ricky, of all the players, is the one who deserves our thanks for his major part in taking us back to the Premiership. At his age circa £5m + is a good price as he may only have one season left at the top level.
This clears the way for TWO top strikers to come in this summer.
THANK YOU RICK & GOOD LUCK, probably warming the bench but finishing your career back where you started.

Come on Les & Ralph GO GET RAFA BENITEZ NOW !

NO only RAFA BENITEZ is the one to convince Adam & Luke to stay, and attract top players. He is successful, experienced and wants to return to the Premiership.
Katharina, Ralph & Les show your ambition & GO GET RAFA !

New Manager announcement would help.
Are you calling rickie a judas for this? If you would happily begrudge this man a move to Liverpool, then you are obviously very narrow minded. I'm gutted he's going, but at the same time chuffed to bits for him. This is a fairy tale story that no sane man would want to interrupt.
A fairy tale script written and directed by Gerrard, no doubt.
ricks done the biz for us , he s off to his home town club fair play to him , no sane fan would begrudge him this surely ? mind u sneaky diverpool could be getting rick in to tempt ads to join him . DONT ON ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET OUR CAPTAIN GO RALPH OR YOU WE WILL HAVE YOU OUT FOR YA BS !AND YOU LESLEY ...!
Dunno about the sane fan bit.... but it all smells very fishy to me. I agree that they may be using SRL as bait.

Away from Football for this comment.
Has anyone posting on The Echo had a minor bug Pulp or worse after posting? Over the last 7 months my Laptop got a virus from The Echo in November which cost me, I telephoned the Echo and informed them, they suggested the bug could of attached from Google who are in control whatever that means. I've had a Pulp at least 3 times and the signs are when typing it slows almost to stop from letter to letter it's very annoying. Because I've experienced the pest I have to do a full Scan immediately, the recent one was Thursday, any advice will be greatly received.

I haven't had any viruses or similar. The only time things slow down is when flashplayer crashes, and that's getting less and less. What browser are you using.
