Greens take note Former Green councillor Keith Taylor says his Green Party colleagues on the council have ‘done a great job’ (Argus interview, May 30), saying a ‘huge chunk’ of the Greens’ manifesto commitments have been fulfilled.

There is no doubt the Greens have pushed through the introduction of new cycle lanes and a city-wide 20mph limit, as well as doing some things that were not in their manifesto, such as lending £36 million to the i360 project.

However they did promise to build a thousand new council homes, but have actually delivered well under a hundred.

They said they would bring in recycling rates of 70 per cent, when in fact recycling has dropped 16 per cent while they have been in charge. They said they would build a new secondary school, yet we are heading towards a secondary places shortage in 2017, It may be that Keith has missed a lot of this whilst away in Brussels, or failed to pick up on the anger of residents towards the Green council during his recent campaign.

What he and other Greens won’t have missed is that last week Labour beat them in a city-wide election for the first time in a decade, and are best placed to do it again in 12 months time.
