Saints stars Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw want to speak to Liverpool and Manchester United

Lallana and Shaw keen to leave - but Saints standing firm

Liverpool want to sign Lallana in a £25million deal

Luke Shaw is also the subject of interest, from Manchester United

Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw look set to remain as Saints players going into the World Cup, with the club resisting their desire to be sold.

Lallana is the subject of a ‘take it or leave it’ £25m bid from Liverpool, while Manchester United have already lodged a £27m approach for Shaw.

Both players are understood to have informed Saints of their wishes to move on this summer and to speak with the respective clubs about a switch.

While both have an affinity to Southampton, they are keen to take up the chance of playing for two of the division's biggest teams.

Ideally, they would like the opportunity to do so before departing for Brazil next weekend.

However, Saints have now publicly declared that they intend to stand firm when it comes to their futures.

The club do not want to conduct any transfer dealings until a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino is appointed, saying they only allowed Rickie Lambert to leave for Liverpool yesterday as they felt that was a special case.

Saints are confident they are in a stronger position when it comes to Lallana and Shaw, and would also like to hold off until after the World Cup, knowing that there is strong interest in both and that, if they do have to sell them, their values could increase during the tournament.

A club statement said: “Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have received multiple offers for some of our players in the past weeks.

“This is a confirmation of the depth of the development that is ongoing in our academy and of the present standing of our first team within the Premier League.

“We are staying true to our plan and vision and, as a result, we have no need to accept any offers.

“It remains our preference not to partake in any transfers until the new manager is in place.”

Saints added that their new manager would have “final input” over recruitment matters.

Lallana and Shaw would both prefer to have their futures sorted before the World Cup begins, in which case a deal would need to be struck this week.

England, who are currently on a training camp in Miami, play warm-up matches against Ecuador and Honduras over the coming days, before they are due to arrive in Brazil on Sunday.

The national team manager, Roy Hodgson, has said he will allow clubs to fly staff out to Florida to conduct medicals, if necessary, as long as it is on the players’ free time.

But, while not certain, there is an increasing sense that such a point will not be reached with Lallana or Shaw, and both would be reluctant to take the step of handing in a formal transfer request.

From Saints’ point of view, the obvious downside to retaining the two players for now is that, should they be sold later this summer, as seems increasingly likely, it would reduce the time the club has to buy replacements, which could impact on their own pre-season preparations.

On a serious note, these sort of conversations should be confidential between player and club.
By telling the press (if it's true) they are showing no respect to the club or supporters at all.
And lets not forget, it's Southampton FC that have made these players into what they are today.
In a way I can understand that Lallana wants to progress his career but he needs to be a bit more diplomatic about it.
I would be more disappointed in Shaw if he has asked to leave after a season and a half.

Well, looks like contracts mean nothing to these players. Have they forgotten the hard work Southampton FC put into making them the players they are today. Having given them the opportunity this is how we are thought of, kissing they badges means nothing. Now Matt-Le-Tiss there's a loyal servant someone who truly showed what it means to sign a contract and keep to it. Today, you may as well give all players match contracts rather then 4-5 year contracts as these 2 signed last year.
However, if we get a good price and spend this money wisely not like the spuds then we may be able to stay in the top half of the table and then bring on more talent through our youth team. The new bus is about to leave on a new era.

ALso if you look at the teams who finished below us, Stoke, West Ham etc, even without Shaw, AL and RL we still have J rod, Clyne, Lovren, Davis, Cork, Gaston, Chambers, JWP to name a few and combined with more superb youngsters and 60m to spend we should at least maintain 8th place as we are still way superior to those teams. Remember the dark days of -10pts in L1? We are still in an amazing position.

Maybe I'm missing something here; but surely it doesn't really matter how much we get for them, yeah sure the people high up in the club will get a pretty penny each for larger transfer fees, but what does the club and the fans get? If all our best players are going to jump ship after one good season, it doesn't really matter how much money we have as the players we get in as repolacement aren't going to be of a higher standard.

Agree on the loyalty front entirely. Jury's out on the Owner and Chairman for me, not sure any good would have come from blocking Rickie's move and there appears at the very least to be a statement of intent to protect the squad pending the arrival of the new manager. How that turns out will be key.

Grow up and realise that players leave clubs at some point, generally for money - it's their job. They will never love the club as much as a true fan and will always look out for number one.
I would prefer to credit them for the hard work that they have always put in whilst wearing the Saints shirt and may look towards why suddenly we were unable to keep a promising young Manager who was doing a great job, and why players seem to want away from a club that three months ago were in the ascendency! I would say that Southampton being relegated down to league 1 at the end of next season is more likely than Liverpool finishing as LOW as 6th next season.

There's a very good possibility that we will have a Champion's League Cup to add to all the European Cups and other silverware in the Anfield trophy room ( Oh ! what a site that is, it's beyond your wildest dreams ! ).

Yes there is !!!!
1. We offload players who don't want to play for us any more.
2. We get a truckload of money for Shaw and Lallana which will be hopefully reinvested in the team.
3. We all get to give Lallana plenty of Sh1t when he comes back to St Marys next season

D - ream (Things can only get better) OMG - I hate that song!!!!!!!!!
Why would you want to give any of these players stick when they come back?
Grow up and realise that players leave clubs at some point, generally for money - it's their job. They will never love the club as much as a true fan and will always look out for number one.
I would prefer to credit them for the hard work that they have always put in whilst wearing the Saints shirt and may look towards why suddenly we were unable to keep a promising young Manager who was doing a great job, and why players seem to want away from a club that three months ago were in the ascendency! Have the goal posts been moved.....?
I pay my money to watch saints and if I want to give a player stick I will OK.
Good for you!

I don't have a problem with Lallana leaving - it was inevitable but I do have a problem with the manner in which it was done.
He signed a 5 year contract last season when none of the so called big boys were in for him and even he felt he wasn't in with a shout of the world cup squad otherwise he wouldn't have arranged to get married in the summer. Oh how quickly things change !!!!
Don't start blaming the board yet either - we all knew bids were gonna come in for our players and so far, apart from Rickie, they have done what they said they would do - resist those bids. Poch wanted to go, they couldn't prevent that.
At the players awards what did Lallana say? I have a special relationship with the fans? Slapping in a transfer request a month later is disrespectful to all Saints fans, you included.
You want to blame someone, blame Liverpool. Their conduct regarding Lallana has been disgraceful. Making ultimatums to our club was gonna panic Adam into thinking he was gonna miss out on a move to Anfield - a very clever ploy I must say, albeit very tasteless.
Not everything is black and white St Winch, I wish it was, but Adam is completely out of order, and regardless what he has done for this club, the relationship he had with the fans may have diminished somewhat after this and I bet you a pound to a penny I'm not the only Saints fan who thinks it either. I was looking forward to the world cup this year but not sure if I am anymore.

If it's true, I think we should make him put in a proper transfer request. Unless things have changed in the last few years, it would mean that he would have to put his money where his mouth is and forfeit his 10% of the transfer fee.

How is this the board or Katharina's fault? They haven't sold the players, they have said they have no need to sell the players, it is the players who want to leave!

I personally would rather have players playing for our club that want to rather than ones who are forced to do so under contract that could disrupt the harmony.

Unfortunately, despite growing, we are not in the top tier of premier league clubs and that is where our players are moving too. they are not moving sideways. Yes we need to keep our best players but they also need to want to stay!

We need to get behind the board and our new manager and players, whoever they maybe. Players come and go but the fans and Saints FC will always remain!

There's a very good possibility that we will have a Champion's League Cup to add to all the European Cups and other silverware in the Anfield trophy room ( Oh ! what a site that is, it's beyond your wildest dreams ! ).

OK , in my haste to write the piece I made a mistake ( should have read Championship ).
I don't want Southampton to fail, their performance this season has been very high indeed . I just think the owners of the club have been at fault for letting what has been one of your best seasons, turn out this way.
If you had kept your manager , I think your squad would still be intact ( bar RL who has done your club proud over the years. ) I thought Southampton were extremely good in releasing him so that he could fulfill his lifetime ambition at Liverpool.

Now I have no idea how much fact is involved, but before I lose all faith in one of my favourite Saints I would prefer some concrete evidence that he has said this
The last interview I heard, he was happy to wait until after the WC and unless he's expecting to perform poorly, will be just as saleable afterwards. Getting himself embroiled in transfer shenanigans will not impress woy, and I don't think he is stupid enough to upset the England manager at this stage. For our part the board need to stay firm, I like most people am still a little unsure of the sincerity of RK.

Thanks for nothing. Markus your memory lives long sadly katharina doesn't seem to share it[/p][/quote]How is this the board or Katharina's fault? They haven't sold the players, they have said they have no need to sell the players, it is the players who want to leave! I personally would rather have players playing for our club that want to rather than ones who are forced to do so under contract that could disrupt the harmony. Unfortunately, despite growing, we are not in the top tier of premier league clubs and that is where our players are moving too. they are not moving sideways. Yes we need to keep our best players but they also need to want to stay! We need to get behind the board and our new manager and players, whoever they maybe.
