Luke Shaw became the youngest player to feature at this World Cup during England's final match against Costa Rica.

The 18-year-old started at left-back for Roy Hodgson's side in Belo Horizonte, becoming the second youngest player to represent the Three Lions on the world stage behind Michael Owen at France '98.

Here, Press Association Sport's Simon Peach looks at how the Southampton full-back fared in England's 0-0 draw with Los Ticos.

DEFENCE

Shaw has risen to whatever challenge has been thrown in front of him during his short career and did the same again today. Making your competitive debut is no doubt a nervy experience, but one which he dealt with brilliantly, especially considering he was on a hiding to nothing. The teenager made very few defensive mistakes, showing maturity beyond his tender years. Shaw's composed challenge on Marcos Urena late on highlighted that.

ATTACKING

A fine attacking outlet as well as sound defensively, Shaw's directness caused Costa Rica problems from the outset. His decision-making was impressive, as was his desire to bomb up and down the flanks. Despite having yet to score for Southampton, Shaw is not shy at having a shot and Daniel Sturridge should have slotted home when his long-range effort was deflected.

OVERALL

A very confident performance from the teenager, who was one of England's standout players in this drab 0-0 draw. Showed maturity beyond his years and looks to be a key player for years to come.
