Brokenhurst Manor’s Liz Young was one of 15 players who came through qualifying and earned places in the Ricoh Women’s British Open which starts at Royal Birkdale on Thursday.

Young shot a two-under 72 at Southport & Ainsdale to tie for 11th – avoiding a seven-way play-off for the final spot.

The 31-year-old will be heading to Southport in decent form having finished in 22nd position at the Ladies European Masters.

A final-round 69 was enough to give her a four-under-par score for the tournament, at Buckinghamshire Golf Club, earning her €6,200 in prize money.

Young is 30th in the Ladies European Tour order of merit ahead of this week’s big-money major.
