YOUNGSTERS from a North Yorkshire town are taking part in a special memorial event to remember those who died in World War 1.
Next Friday (July 18) 57 children from Easingwold Primary School will walk from their school to the War Memorial in Market Place in memory of the 57 servicemen from Easingwold who last their lives in the conflict.
At 11am, a spray of poppies will be laid by their head teacher, Irene Marwood and, after a brief service by Rev Canon John Harrison, the children will pay their tribute with personalised everlasting poppies.
Each poppy is individually inscribed with the name of a fallen serviceman and the children will announce the name as each poppy is planted. The Mayor of Easingwold, Cllr Shirley Shepherd, civic dignitaries and members of the Easingwold branch of the Royal British Legion will also attend.
Stewart Lythe, fundraiser for Yorkshire’s Poppy Appeal: “I continue to be amazed at how much the Poppy Appeal and its connection to Remembrance means to all people of all ages. This will be a truly moving tribute and a demonstration of how the Poppy Appeal bridges generations.”
