RUMOUR MILL, July 10 - England keeper linked with £8m Saints switch

Daily Echo: Frazer Forster Frazer Forster

SAINTS are again being linked with Celtic's England goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The Daily Echo revealed last month that new boss Ronald Koeman is eager to bring in a new shot-stopper to replace Artur Boruc.

And Saints are hoping that the presence of new goalleeping coach Dave Watson, who has worked with Forster during his time with the England senior squad, will help attract the 26-year-old to St Mary's, according to the Daily Mirror.

Forster is rated at around £8m, while Celtic brought in ex-Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon earlier this week to potentially guard against Forster's departure.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mail is linking Saints with a move for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham.

The paper says that Premier League newboys Leicester are also interested in a £6m deal for the 21-year-old.

Meanwhile, The Times write that Arsenal and Spurs have cooled their interest in Morgan Schneiderlin, after Saints asked for in excess of £20m for the midfielder.

The Times also report that Galatasaray is a possible destination for wantaway Saints striker Dani Osvaldo.

I'll take that if it's true. Would be a massive statement of intent. Although I think when fit Boruc is world class. On a side note it's probably wishful thinking, but RoKo singled out Ronnie Vlarr for praise in a tweet, hopefully to sweeten him up for a move to St Marys. The guy kept arguably the worlds best striker quiet. Fingers crossed. coyr&ws.

Are you saying there are some World Cup goalkeepers that never make a mistake? I think to say he is being bought to replace Artur is not right, he is being bought to challenge Artur for first pick in the side. We need competition for places, it stops player getting complacent.

Yes Milton Boruc from memory made two poor moves that resulted in loss of points but I would have to say I think he easily cancelled that out with the number of points he earned with his keeping. But then my wife is half Polish so maybe I'm biased.

I'm with you there robbie but I think given his age and clear ability (he never has had a bad game) he is worth more than Luke Shaw IMHO. Ideally the club can convince him to stay at St Marys as captain with the promise of new quality signings.

Desperatly need to get at least one proven striker asap and the delay is little worrying as only a few weeks before it all starts again...and can lovren come back after whats been said..well hed have to apologise a bit and vow to play his best and maybe we can keep him for a while because to lose too many at once would be a recipe for disaster. Happy with tadic signing but will be happier when he proves himself.

this would be a good signing...be good to get another couple of signings done soon too. The Caulker thing has gone quiet to QPR or Palace, surely he would be a good signing for us and I agree with others on here that Vlaar has looked good during the world cup and must be worth a punt. Encouraged by the stance on Morgan and Dejan too, maybe this board will pull through after all...I've also been impressed with Mr Koeman, I have found him more personable then Pochetino and seems genuine. Was good to hear him talking about building on last year. Despite all that is being written I am sure there is ambition, he wouldn't have come otherwise...bring on Liverhampton and lets hope we stuff them!

Concerned to hear the rumors about Morgan, he is the one we do need to keep and make captain. I though he had agreed to meet with RonKo in two weeks after his holiday. Need to offer Morgan a new contract as keeping him would be our best signing, if not then please do NOT let him go to Spuds.

RonKo will sort Lovren out this week, he will either apologize and stay or sold asap. Ron Vlarr looked good last night as did the other dutch CB's at Feyenoord so replacing Lovren should not be a problem.

Spurs and Arsenal are said to have lost interest in Morgan his 25 million tag has slowed interest. Though rumor has it Napoli and an un-named Spanish club are interested.
As for Lovren I expect him to go to Liverpool when they have the money from Suarez but that may be a dead deal as Liverpool are turning their attention towards Caulker apparently.
If Forster comes we should off load Gazzinga, he is maybe a championship keeper at best and has leaked goals like a sieve when he has been in the side. Every time i heard his name mentioned or Hoov's or Fox's last season as being in the side I groaned. Our young American keep needs to step up now as well or go.
We need two left backs
! CB 2 if Lovren goes.
3 forwards at the moment Gallagher needs to be brought through slowly. Jay is injured, Mayuka has never proved he has what it takes. We need two to play and one as cover.
After buying Tadic we have around sixty million left to buy players.
After January's possible move to West Ham Lambert was obviously going, we lack pace up front other than Jay. So his going was no shock.
Lallana was a shock and the way he did it refusing to wear the shirt again according to many sources left a bitter taste in both the fan's and club's mouth. He was a guy who we as fans thought wore the badge on his heart. Shaw was always likely to go even though the club tried to get him to stay.
Just need to use the money wisely and get talented players in that make us stronger.

French daily newspaper Le 10 Sport has revealed that Tottenham have opened talks for Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino hopes to get reunited with the player at White Hart Lane and he has instructed the club officials to try and lure the France international to North London.

Just lifted this snippet from soccernews.com as posted earlier today - hoping this is just speculative gossip. Rambo needs to be concentrating on buying not selling. Still time for Morgan to be convinced his future is bright here though.

The purchase of this keeper would raise a few eyebrows and make a statement that Saints, far from sulking about the summer raids are coming back with an improved squad and money to keep spending if needs be.

The guy kept arguably the worlds best striker quiet. Fingers crossed. coyr&ws.
Hopefully if we get Vlaar, he wont be our next penalty taker.

Forster would be my keeper of choice, good age and a lot of people rave about him. Fight it out with Boruc as first choice and unload Gazza, not seen anything, apart from his distribution, to think he's a top half Prem keeper. Cody is one for the future and in the event of a double injury would be the cover. Don't know what we do with Super Kelv, a true Saint who stuck with us when it was all going Pete Tong, need to treat him fairly but we do seem to be at the end of his career as a player.

Give us £15m for Forster and another £15m for Van Dijk and you can have them!!

Forster is one of the best keepers in Europe, FACT! He is far better than any english keeper at the minute

And Virgil Van Dijk is a different class! Far too good for the SPL, cruised it in the Champions League last season. The only fear I would have for Saints is that you won't be able to match the ambition for Virgil, as I believe he will truly be a world class player and would likely use you as a stepping stone, even though he's already good enough to play for any of the so called big teams in england.

If you get them both then fair play!! They will do a great job for saints and are better then what you already have in them positions!

Fraser Forster be a good deal at 8mill .
And Danny Ings from Burnley would be great.
We seem to raid Burnley & Celtic alot so i think we must have a good hand at dealing with the two clubs .
Connor Wickham or Danny Ings i would take ings any day.

Good informative post SaintJoeBhoy. As far as paying silly over-priced demands, you must be confusing us with the Scousers. I think our choice for a keeper is between Marshall, Forster and perhaps Schmeichel.
Virgil Van Dijk is getting good kudos in the papers and don’t worry we are all used to the term stepping stone.

Okay for what it is worth assuming Spider and Dejan stay he is my realistic signing:
Forster 8M Bertrand 4M Van Dijk 10M Ings 6M Sinclair 3M Beneteke 15M Tadic 11M
Spend off 57M. Would also offer 3M and Fonte for Caulker. So my squad.
Forster Boruc Davis
Clyne Chambers Targett Bertrand
Lovern Van Dijk Caulker Yosida
Spider Victor JWP Cork Davis Reed
Sinclair Tadic J Rod Gaston
Ings Beneteke Gallagher Osvaldo
Does not seem so bad  COYR
Wouldn't argue too much about that squad mate apart from Osvaldo.

About as much chance as a snowball in hell though I'm afraid. Might get one or two of 'em though.

Suspect we'll get one or two announced at the press conference tomorrow - we'll see.

Instead of seeing the dearly departed as losses, perhaps we need to see them as great successes for a selling club which we are at the moment. Lambert, Shaw and Lallana have all gone for much more than we forked out so we increase the ability to buy better and get into the elusive "Top Six".

Actually it's Netherlands. Holland both north and south are districts of Netherlands. Just to show RK that we are taking an interest in his homeland
