Daily Echo: Smith becomes Salisbury CEO Smith becomes Salisbury CEO

JOURNALIST Paul Smith, who has been working alongside new director Mark Winter to help resolve Salisbury City’s financial problems, has been hired as the club’s new CEO.

Mr Smith, holding experience in big football clubs, will restructure the crisis club and help it be a “professionally run organisation.”

He played his part in the club’s on-going legal battle to remove 96 per cent shareholder Otail Touzar on Friday, with the club forming a consortium board, which consists of five members; Jackie Goddard, David Phillips, Graeme Mundy, Winter and Jeremy Harwood.

The new directors said: “Paul and the directors share the vision that we must engage with the supporters and the wider community as we strive to run Salisbury City in a financially sound and efficient way as a true community club.”

“Although probably better known for his background as a leading sports journalist, Paul also brings a wealth of experience and contacts in the business side of football.”

In 2006, Smith was involved in the acquisition of Leicester City, and the restructuring of the club. He also acted for David Sullivan during the takeover at West Ham United.

The Whites yesterday lodged their appeal to be reinstated in Conference South after being relegated on July 4 for not settling their debts.

In addition, City say they are in the process of holding interviews with potential managerial candidates, one of which is understood to be former Pompey striker Steve Claridge.
