Dibben suffers Games heartache
4:09pm Friday 18th July 2014 in Sport
Totton cyclist Jon Dibben has suffered huge disappointment.
He was set to compete in his first senior games at next week’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Britain’s best young talents in the sport, and is included in Team England’s squad for both the track endurance and road events.
But he was today forced to withdraw from the sporting jamboree in Scotland due to a fractured elbow.
Dibben, who had been due to compete in track and road events in Glasgow, suffered the injury during training.
Dibben, who progressed through the Olympic Development Programme, has become a firm fixture on the international scene, competing in the last two World Championships.
He had previously said: “I am really excited to be taking part in my first senior Games.
“This is a real honour. It was in Glasgow that I competed in my first senior event – the Glasgow World Cup, in November 2012.”
