BOOKMAKERS rate Jay Rodriguez a better bet to end up as the Premier League’s top scorer than new Saints striker Graziano Pelle.

That is despite the fact Rodriguez could miss a large chunk of the season as he continues his rehabilitation from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Rodriguez is rated at 50/1 by bookies Boylesports to finish top gun in 2014/15, with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero the 4/1 favourite.

Ex-Saints hero Rickie Lambert is rated 40/1, while Pelle doesn’t even figure in Boylesports’ top 26 Golden Boot possibles.

He is in the section marked ‘66/1 bar’ for everyone else.

Boylesports top Premier League scorer 2014/15: Sergio Aguero 4/1, Robin Van Persie 9/2, Diego Costa 6/1, Daniel Sturridge 6/1, Wayne Rooney 14/1, Alexis Sanchez 14/1, Olivier Giroud 16/1.

Well, if this turns out to be the case it is very good news because that means Jay is still a Saint and shows his loyalty.

Hope so, like the guy for himself and as a player obviously.

Bookmakers don't rate players, they respond to betting patterns in order to maximise profits/minimise losses.

No it doesn't,where does it say he will score the goals for southampton ?
They have probably quoted those odds because they are expecting him to move in the January window
I hope I'm wrong because like you I rate him and hopes he signs and honours the 5 year contract that is on the table

I wonder the Bookies haven't started taking Bets on when Jays right leg will fall off they do they make me sick. I expect they can't wait for Saints to play there first 3 games to start rumours about who the next batch of Players will be leaving in January, they and Agents are the curse of the all the Saints Supporters and it's understatement that we've all had enough of this devilish bunch of agitators.

This is a non story and sadly one where the Echo are just stirring trouble. Frankly though I wouldn't expect Pelle to be in the top 26 for the golden boot because he's a totally unknown quantity and so are we going to be as a team this season, so it is fair. I'm happy that expectations will be low for the guy - takes all the pressure off.

Looks like the Daily Echo has let a School work experience kid have a go on the sports page.

Try teaching the kid some good up to date news like :-

Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo is set to be fined for failing to return to training last week. New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is likely to be given the fee from Osvaldo's sale, with the likes of Inter Milan and Lazio believed to be interested in securing a permanent transfer, estimated at around £12m, to help Koeman improve his side with bids for Ron Vlaar and Nathan Redmond expected in the next few days.
