Saints made it five wins from five in pre-season as they comfortably beat Championship side Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium.

Ronald Koeman’s men dictated the game throughout and were full value for their win.

Saints opened the scoring midway through the first half as Dusan Tadic turned on the edge of the area and drilled a fierce low shot past David Stockdale at his near post.

Steven Davis doubled the lead a minute before half time as he calmly sidefooted home after Graziano Pelle’s blocked shot in the area broke to him 12 yards out.

James Ward-Prowse added a third on 64 minutes as he won possession and unleashed a brilliant sliced 25 yard shot that bent into the top corner.

Kazenga LuaLua pulled one back, the first Saints have conceded in pre-season, after robbing the ball and firing in via a slight deflection off of Nathaniel Clyne.

The game also featured a Saints debut for new signing Ryan Bertrand who played the first half while Morgan Schneiderlin was, as expected, missing after only reporting back last weekend following his World Cup adventures with France.

Saints now have just one pre-season friendly remaining before they start the Premier League season against Liverpool as they take on Bayer Leverkusen at St Mary’s a week on Saturday.
