RUMOUR MILL, August 6 - Saints keeping tabs on Lazio midfielder

Alvaro Gonzalez (right) in World Cup action against England

First published in Sport

Saints are reportedly tracking Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, who is also attracting interest from other clubs, played in all four of Uruguay’s games at the World Cup.

Lazio, who are looking to strengthen in central defence, could cash in on the 29-year-old to free up funds for a defender.

Gonzalez has 47 international caps.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger is reportedly weighing up whether to play Calum Chambers in a midfield holding role for the new season.

The Arsenal boss has been impressed by the former Saints player’s adaptability since joining the Gunners and Chambers could feature in a central role against Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.

"Lazio are looking to strengthen in central defence", err, isn't that we should be doing? Another midfielder? Maybe we are going to adopt a 1-8-1 formation this season?

I hope there is nothing in this as he is too old at 29 and would indicate that Morgan may not be staying. Assuming this is just rumors then I agree we don't need any more midfielders.
TWO top first choice CB's and a Top STRIKER are now the urgent priorities.

On reflection, he may do us a good job if he doesn't cost too much.
Gonzalez would bring extra bite, experience & south american 'noose' to the squad. He could be a useful option when closing down against the top teams and may help Gaston improve his game.
RonKo could be thinking of his options so leave it to his judgement.

As regards Chambers, we should have told him to stay, but now I just hope we have a good sell on % as I believe we sold him too cheaply.

The Gaston link may be useful. I'm sure that there's a dominant display in him just waiting to get out. By the way, love the Scottish pronunciation of 'nous', it's how Bill Shankly would have said it.

It seems the Southampton Board are damned if the do and damned if they don't with signings and possible signings because some if any are not permanent but they could be. The Algerian 22 year old Player looks very good but we do not know what is discussed to allow Southampton to have him, the same with the hairy 29 year old Argie he looks useful.
Can anyone who knows explain how the Loaning of Players works, one thing I assume is the Club where the Player is loaned would pay his Salary.
I'm confident Ronald Koeman will have the Players fired up for the first Premiership game of the new season, he may not have all the Players he wants but I'm convinced he will be ready so please everyone trust the Board, Ronald his Staff and all the Players and give them all the Support they need to make it a better season than the last and help us all forget the misery, I'm going to St Marys this week to see if I can get a ticket for the first home game COYR

Saints eye €25m deal for duo

August 6, 2014

Southampton are reportedly looking to seal a €25m double deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo and Dynamo Kyiv midfielder Younes Belhanda.

The former, an Argentina international who appeared in the 2014 World Cup final, looks set to leave the Portuguese outfit, but Saints have failed with their first offer of €12m, with €15m being demanded.

Meanwhile the Frenchman, who only joined Dynamo from Montpellier last summer, is also keen on a move to the Premier League, following the political unrest in the country of his parent club at the current time.

It is thought that an offer of €10m would be enough to bring the 24-year-old attacking midfielder to St Mary’s, and his representative has confirmed there has been firm interest enquiries from the south coast side.
