Blackfield & Langley boss John Robson is praying for some good luck ahead of their Sydenhams Premier Division match against Alresford Town tonight (7.45) at Gang Warily.

The Watersiders drew 3-3 with Whitchurch United on Saturday – Dave Ewen and Michael Durdey scored from the penalty spot for the first and third, while the second was scored by Jake Rowley.

And the Magpies were hugely impressive in their 4-1 win at Verwood Town. Substitute Scott Hills scored twice – Jack Hoey and Liam Magee got one apiece.

Robson is hoping that lady luck will be on his side, after a series of injuries have left his side thin on the ground.

Centre back Nick Taylor remains a doubt after suffering a broken nose against Whitchurch, while Ewen will serve a suspension after his sending off in the same game. Blackfield also sweat on the fitness of Joe Byrne and Josh Hanratty among others.

“We haven’t had any luck with injuries,” said Robson.

“I want to be top of the league.

“I don’t want to be second, but it’s all about luck and that’s what we need.”

After Taylor’s injury Robson was forced to reshuffle and felt it didn’t help the Watersiders’ chances in the six-goal thriller. “I’ll take full blame for changing the system but the players didn’t stop giving 100 per cent and even though we got pulled back we looked dangerous on the front foot,” he said.

Ahead of tonight, neither side at all reflect the teams that clashed in 5-1 and 4-3 victories for Alresford last term.

New Magpies co-managers Jeremy Stagg and Martin Beck have had the unenviable task of rebuilding the team after ex-bosses Danny Robinson and Tim Cole departed for Winchester City – taking eleven players with them to the Denplan City Ground.

And on the Waterside, Robson – once boss at Winchester and AFC Totton – has formed an eye-catching squad at Gang Warily with the addition of several top-class non-league players, including Poole Town’s Ekow Elliott and Jamie Musslewhite from AFC Portchester.
