Sholing co-manager Dave Fear is itching to get the Southern League South & West season underway at the Silverlake Arena tomorrow night.

The Boatmen take on North Leigh on Wednesday in their second match of the campaign after a goalless draw at Shortwood in the opening fixture.

It will be the first glimpse the Silverlake faithful will have to see their newly constructed side, which has taken a new look over the summer.

Management duo Fear and Mick Marsh will be taking charge of their first competitive match at Portsmouth Road, following Dave Diaper’s transition into full-time chairman after a 14-year stint at the helm.

And new Gosport Borough pair Mike Carter and Lee Wort will return to the club they won the FA Vase and Sydenhams Premier Division with last term.

Fear released a statement to the Boatmen supporters on Sholing’s official website.

He wrote: "At last the season begins. I'm very much looking forward to 2014/15 and the new challenge with the first two homes games of the campaign this week.

“I am confident that with the continued support of the ultras, all our fans, committee members and volunteer staff, our new management and squad can continue progressing in the right direction and add to the success of last season.

"I'm proud to say that two of my former youth players, Mike Carter and Lee Wort, have gone on to sign at a higher league level. They will be sorely missed within the club and I send them my best wishes for the future.

"With a tough campaign ahead us the positive vibes throughout Sholing FC will make Season 2014/15 a very enjoyable experience I'm sure.

"On behalf of fellow first team manager, Mick Marsh, as well as all the coaching & playing staff, thank you all for your continued support and hard work on and off the pitch, it can't be done without you!"

The match tonight (7.45) is followed by a home match against Stratford on Saturday (3pm).
