No bids for Cork

Saints have not received any offers for midfielder Jack Cork.

Reports today suggested that Crystal Palace have tabled a £3m bid for the Saints star, who is out of contract in a year’s time.

The Daily Echo understands that there have been a number of enquiries for Cork this summer, but Saints have not received any formal bids.

The club are not desperately keen to sell Cork at this stage.

As well providing a central midfield option, Cork also offers cover at right back if Nathaniel Clyne is out.

If Cork were to go then Saints would need to dip into the transfer market again to sign another right back, following the departure of Calum Chambers to Arsenal.

Saints were interested in tabling a £4.5m offer for Leeds right back Sam Byram, but do not plan to go back in for him with Ronald Koeman content that Cork offers a good solution if Clyne is unavailable for any reason.

It is believed that at this stage there are no talks planned over Cork’s contract situation.

The Daily Echo also understands that reports linking Saints with Brighton winger Solly March are wide of the mark.

What is all this nonsense about verbal or gentlemans agreements? How can you have a gentleman's agreement about leaving the club with someone who doesn't work there anymore?

.. and yes I do know that verbal agreements are binding .. but as any lawyer worth his greedy overpaid life will know they are very hard to prove.

Morgan .. face up to it .. you have to stay until January, then Krueger can save face and you can go .... or maybe change your mind when Spurs are still not in the top five ....

Oh to be a fly on the wall of the DE newsroom. "What rumour shall we let the neanderthals get their teeth into next - oh yes, we're selling Cork".

Trouble is, so many buy into it every time. If some of you lot were fish (sorry for the analogy - I'm talking real ones) you'd be battered and on a plate before you could say "hook, line and sinker".

As regards Morgan (another big juicy bit of bait) - if he's dissing a newly signed 4 year contract written on paper it's almost laughable that he's now saying the club are at fault for dissing a supposed conversation!

But who knows if it's true? This close season at St. Mary's has made the Mad Hatter's Tea Party look like positively boring and predictable. I for one will just be glad when all we can talk about is how the team played and why we didn't get the 3 points our played deserved. Bring it on.

Now really news I guess, but heartening hearsay at worst.

As long as they don't pay too much attention to the nastier ones, I hope the club pays some attention to these threads because, if so, they can be in no doubt of the strength of feeling for Jack Cork from the support base.

At the very least I hope he appreciates how much we appreciate him as a player and want him to not only stay, but play on a regular basis.

1. If something happens

2. If nothing happens

3. If the earth continues to orbit the sun.
Why, have you heard the earth is about to stop orbiting the sun?

I would have staked as much as a £1 that he would be on our "retain at any cost" list

Can't see them spending any more money, perhaps another couple of on loaners. £12 mill on long, can the club afford to thro that sort of cash away.
A record! I have just given a thumbs up to all of the first 23 posts on this thread! This one is the first thumbs down. For some weeks we have heard comments that we won't reinvest or we will not spend any more. Well that is being proved wrong again and again. The Long signing has just be completed and Florin Gardos should follow shortly (unless, as some sources mention, that there might have been a problem with his medical due to a thigh injury or muscle tear - may well be unfounded). RonKo has said today that Vlaar is still top of his wanted list. It would be great if we could get him but even if not, I still think there are several players to come in to further strengthen the considerable depth in our squad.

I still think we need another CB, even after signing Gardos.

I defence of the DE the Mailonline had the deal as signed and sealed yesterday. Maybe the DE is not the only paper hat gets things wrong.

The chairman and Reed have said that MS and J Rod are not for sell - but we all know they will go. By the way Morgan, you traitor, signing a contract is considerably more binding than a bloody supposed gentleman's agreement

Thence Jack Cork - he ran his heart out for the Saints last year - a star home and away - and what will happen - we will sell him for peanuts.

Going to be a long long season. Our club is faceless now - thanks Reed

To sell him would be folly, especially at a knock down 3 million,as was rumoured.I am delighted that maybe it was only rumour spread by the press. But,Saints please give him a new contract that ensures he stays permanently.

I have not come across a Saints' fan who doesn't rate Jack highly.

I have been saying for a long time that I think Cork will be off.
The way he was treated last season with the manager prefering VW to him even though Cork performed well was poor.
It looks like the same will happen again this season, so get ready for him leaving before the transfer window closes.
I am a fan of any player that performs when picked and Cork is one of these, people go on about how strong Victor is, well he might win tackles but he gives the ball away too often he is slow in possession and offers little creatively.
